Any suggestions appreciated....

You asking about ELIM or UNLM? Prep is very different for each.

For ELIM, do the same as for SS or SP. But polish the inside of the DFW. Some even put a bit of graphite on the inside of the DFW, but only on the outer 1/8". Don't let it get close to the bore or axle.

For UNLM, carefully (very very carefully) remove one of the bearings with an Exato knife, remove the other with an axle pin. Mount a spare UNLM axle on the end of a stick (12" x 1" x 2") board. Mount a single bearing on an old Jewkes UNLM wheel and clean it good with Break Cleaner and compressed air. Turn wheel over, and do the same again. Then hand spin the wheel (still with only one bearing). If it spins for 100 seconds, you have a winner. Less is not good. THEN do the same with the second bearing. Then assuming you have two bearings that spin for 100 seconds, mount both of them on the same Jewkes wheel, and spin it again. With two bearings, time should be 70 seconds.

There you go, my secret is out.

Frank, eliminator? I believe the last race you where running the XS type wheel. When I used to run those I had to spend a TON of time on polishing the bore smooth. Back in the day when you bought them the bores were pretty rough I don't know how they come any more. But focus on getting the bore good and smooth then finish with the polish of your choice.
