Proxxon on its way

I hit Amazon today and ordered the Proxxon, drill chuck, vise and X-Y table. The alternative is to hand scrape the floor drill press to bring it into front/back alignment. It could be done, but the man hours spent justifies the Proxxon. Left/right were fine. It is what it is. The milling machine could do it, but that is a bit of a pain to take to the Pack meeting to drill holes for the lads.

I admit that I thought about this for a while. Since I build at least 3 cars a year with the family plus teach the workshop... John will see an increase in business from me. The interesting statistic is that the Cubs who went to the workshop 7 out of the 10 got Pack trophies. Those who attended the Test n Tune AND the workshop, 100% got a trophy. I had to research my records to find that. It is amazing to see the speed increase from last year to this year.

For me, this was an easy decision. I went from Derby Worx tools the first season to the Silver Bullet the next season. My son's times went from 2.70 last season to 2.57 this season on a longer track (32' wood versus 35' aluminum). Imagine what will happen when we learn how to tune properly. I have to practice that K-house groove Dremel cutoff wheel technique.

You will be impressed with it the first time you use it. I still need to get me a table but i am making do. If you still have your axle press it works great to hold your axle while you cut your groove.

Like Ryanh said ,Proxxon is an essential tool for building speed. You will notice right a way the accuracy of drilling will be at another level. The XY table will help in keeping your drill heights dead on. I always drill both rears first then change the height and hit the DFW next, that way everything stays consistent. The only maintenance I do to the system is to the XY table. I keep the slides dry lubed and the allen head adjustment screws lightly snug, Good luck you love the tool.

Well, it arrived today. The vise has some nice V-grooves. Can we say using the Proxxon to cut the K-house groove with the X-Y table? Oh, this machine makes some of my jobs very easy now. I understand why you guys like them. And did I mention how light weight and small the whole assembly is?
