Pulling axles off car

Do the axle pliers work to pull the axles out of the car body with a small gap between the car and wheel? Does it allow a gap big enough to get the tool on the back side of the nail head and wheel?
And what else works for this?
I just pull the wheel but they are getting harder to get out and do not want to rune the cone on the out side of the wheel.

I used fishing line. Looped it around and pulled them out.

Easy way is to have the K-House groove cut into all the axle heads to break them loose.
Just keep turning the axle while you remove the axle enough to use the pliers.

Easier way is to do the 5Kids and add holes where the axle ends are, to push them out with a small flathead (among other added benefits).

Tried the fishing line thing but Johns 92x's have a sharp edge and always cuts the 30lb test line I used.

You may need to drill into the body where the nail ends are. You will need to clean and reprep your wheels afterward.
