Question of which wheelbase

Speaking of exaggerating...Has anyone tried making a shorter wheelbase then the standard BSA? The benefit to extended is to provide more stability but it someone was really good at keeping their cars stable maybe they could get away with having the front wheels moved back even further.

Re-reading the thread it looks like Kinser made a successful unlimited like that. I would think anything under 4" would start to get really tricky. Would be interesting to see someone try a stubby wheel base on a 7" car body.

I never tried it but I understand if you go too short the nose of the car will drag on the guide in the curve. Not sure what the limit is there.

My wheelbase was five inches. I don't know if going less than 4 3/8" would be beneficial. At some point it'll start to get real tricky to keep it stable and I think 4 3/8" is that point.

Following are some race results regarding wheelbase: Over at APR they have a Mini Cooper division where the length of the car is 4" maximum which limits the wheelbase. Mine was 2.7". A Pure Stock wheelbase is 4 and 3/8ths minimum. The Mini Cooper wheels can be trued to 2.0 grams minimum, an advantage with a lighter wheel.

In Feb 2024 at APR the race results for the top five Pure Stock cars were:
2.9524, 2.9561, 2.9563, 2.9605, 2.9638.

The top five Mini Cooper times were:
2.9723, 2.9723, 2.9926, 2.9972(my car), and 3.0173.

You can see a significant speed advantage to the longer wheelbase Pure Stock cars.

Yeah Cyc,

I suppose having the weight 3 inches higher from the start gate might also have a bit to do with it too though.

And? outside of the fact you only did it once.

Once, should answer your question completely. /images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif

Ya, had that figured out. Was looking for the gruesome details. /images/boards/smilies/crazy.gif

EDIT: Remember things can get boring here in "Green Acres"
