Racing on a Wood Track

I'm thinking about going to a race with a wood track. Is there anything I should look at car wise? Are there any special considerations when racing on a wood track. I'm sure the stop section could be interesting.

If it's anything like the wood track at my church, prepare for a bumpy ride with the uneven surface, misaligned joints, and splinters along the rails. Will there be a center guide or no?

We've raced on two center tail wooden tracks in the last year. One is pretty tip top. The other was a demolition derby. On the demolition track, the parents actually stopped the race (with permission from the girl scout leader) fixed several joints: wood glue, screws, sanding. The race was started over from beggining then. Part of the problem with the cars coming off were there were a lot of three wheelers, including ours, that had no steer. The cars would move off the rail (out from the dom) and the lifted wheel would slide over the rail. Good luck!

I think I'll pass and watch the my grandkids have a great time. Don't need to be tearing up those great DD4H products on a wood track.

Wise decision! I've often told the conmanders of my son's royal ranger outpost that the only thing our track is good for is firewood. I've toyed with the idea of partially subsidizing a new track but the wife shoots it down every time!
