Have any of you guys found more speed in a car you rebuilt?
I was working on a couple new street stocks tonight and got as far as I could go until I get my order for the Down4Derby Lead Aero Weights. After I wrapped up I was looking at some of my cars and trying to decide which ones to prep for the next race. The fastest car I've built so far is Speedhawk which ran an average of 2.9693 in the MOTM Championship. I was very pleased with that time as I had set a goal of going sub 2.97 on the old track setup. However, I never liked the balsa fenders I made for the car which were more or less a hack job. I've recently made a couple sets of fenders out of DD4H sugar pine blocks that I had messed up the drill on and they turned out much nicer than the balsa ones. Therefore I decided to break the balsa fenders off Speedhawk and replace them. Well, one thing turned into another 45 minutes later I had completely stripped the car down and removed all the weights. I hope to pick up a little speed with the rebuild but now I'm thinking I should have left well enough alone.
