Reducing outer Hub Ring on Wheels

Good day, question for the pros. I'm attaching a pic of what I did to a test wheel and what to know if this is something any of the pros do to increase the speed of the tire rotation.
I reamed out the first layer of the outer hub, so the axle head will sit in the outer hub better. My question is: Is this a good practice to do or just leave the out ring of hub alone and just trus the oil or graphite process to do the trick? Sondo007, yes you defenitly want to get that step out. Here is a picture of how it should look before the prep.

I too have been pondering this issue, esp. if aftermarket wheels are not an option. My concern is after reaming out that 1st step, the remaining contact points on the inner ring are not spinning uniformly under the axle head. I've been advised to use a single hole paper punch and punch out mini discs of gradually finer grits of sandpaper all the way to 3k and attach each disc to the end of a pencil eraser to smooth out that outer hub. I then finish the outer hub with the same protocol I use to polish/wax the wheel bore. After doing it this way for dozens of wheels the past couple years I'm thinking there's got to be a more efficient/better way to do this...
 
Thanks, I believe I ran across an article about using a flute bit to boar out the hub and then sand it down. Wasn't sure this was adviseable do to the melting of the plastic. The eraser idea is good, but very time consuming. I tried using the HUB Shaver, but still leaves a unlevel surface. Thanks for your input.
 
I AGREE WITH DADDIO. BUT IF BUYING A SET FROM HIS WEBSITE IS NOT AN OPTION, I HAVE USED A HOMADE WHEEL JIG AND A 1/8TH FORSTNER BIT TO REMOVE THE TOP STEP ON THE OUTTER HUB. KEEP IN MIND THAT DOING THIS, BE CAREFUL NOT TO DISTORT THE AXLE HOLE ITSELF.
 
Thank you Donelson, do you have pic of your Jig idea? I've been playing around with using "ProHuB tool" by taking a Dremel drum bit and screwing it so the rubber expands a little and creates a tight fit inside the "prohub tool" and then putting the bit into my drill press and clamping the wheel down on the press and drilling the hole that way. However it whobbles a bit and walks on the wheel causing the hole to be bigger than it should be. I ran across another idea on another forum I might try too create a stable path line as the tool enters the tire hub, will see if works. Side note, I did buy a few set of wheels from DD4H which are really nice of course. I'm just playing around with this to see if I can make it work without a lathe (a poorman's lathe)
