Alright, I'm not sure if it's a secret or a lot of people just dont know how to do it. How/what do you do/use to remove the inside lettering on a stock BSA wheel? I've search and checked on youtube, and I can't find anything.

I know we are all aware of this but reading this immediately made me remember an event at our last scout race, one participant was d/q'ed because his wheel was missing part of the flutting and wording (attempt to round and lighten the wheels). They still allowed him to race for fun which was nice, but he couldnt qualify for any awards if he won or placed (which in the end turns out he would not have placed anyway....I think they used some kind of belt sander on the outside which might have caused more harm than good /images/boards/smilies/frown.gif)
just wanted to re-empahsize that knowing exactly what the rules for your race states is one of the most important things to remember if your altering any look to the wheel profile or wording!

QT is right on... the way I have seen it done on a lathe is with a custom made cutting tool. But maybe some of the wheel making or machinist expert can chime in with the actual cutting tool they use.. Not to mean your not an expert QT.../images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif
I think Obsessed is thinking about his area rules,[ but light sanding is permitted] and they are very ambiguous as are many. Some of us are used to taking advantage of these, but you run the risk of getting DQ'ed and even though you are correct, it was not specifically spelled out, rules committee folks generally can get pressure from the losers to say " it goes against the spirit of our rules" and maybe we will put that in next year. The big risk is they let you race because they do not see it, and after you win, your car will come under suspicion, and if they see anything unusual, you are guilty. If you do not want a bad surprise, try to get a ruling before the race in writing. Some places say if you make it through the check-in inspection, you can not get DQ'ed later, others will just go with the moment. If I miss it at check-in, but I see it later, I would be in a tight spot if another parent was yelling- "He sanded it so hard he took the lettering off, that is NOT light sanding"
also, your rules do not say you need to have 4 wheels, so using a pin should be OK, good luck with that until you get it in writing.
Be sure and bring another set of wheels just in case.

Just bevel and angle the head of a flat head screw driver then turn on a lathe. That is how I did it (By I, I mean a friend had the tools that I used).
I dont want to do everything myself. Just want to try. I'll buy some things, but I want to be more involved in the hobby and do as much as I can by myself... If I can /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif
