Riding the bitter bus!

There is always more to it... we didn’t leave just because of 1 policy, it was several things such as favoritism and other things. But I do agree with you...

All this could be avoided if they just open the district race to all scouts imo
Agreed, but then where is the insentive for being a top performer at the scout level? To me its part of getting to go to districts...Also, depending how many scouts, that would be a TON of cars to run...if you have never ran a race, you just cannot imagine the headache... WOW that would be a very long long DAY!!!

I've ran our District Race last 3 years and it's a long standing policy in our District and Council that races are open to all scouts. Now our District doesn't get much participation and we usually only get 60-75 scouts. Other Districts in our Council have 200 scouts race. Our Council is 3rd largest in USA they say and we still have 2 out of 25 Districts that don't have a race....plus no Council race but I hear rumors of talks about one.

WOW! Thats pretty cool. Maybe its just me because I am ate up with PWD, I just cannot understand the lack of participation. I am trying to up our scout participation by donating all the kits this coming year. We shall see if it works?

Our district is similar. Any scout can send a car to districts, in part because a few packs don't have derbys and we want all kids to have a chance to participate. I think this year was ~80 cars, split somewhat evenly between cars that probably finished near the top of their dens and kids who just wanted a chance to run their car (or run it again). The fastest times at districts were faster than my pack, but I'm not sure the average time was. I can't see us capping the number per pack unless the total number of entries starts shooting through the roof.

I’d like to reiterate how much I disagree how they decide who goes to regionals! But in the scheme of things, PWD is a small part of what the Cub Scouts do and mean. Personally, I wouldn’t consider a pack move over it. I would be bitter too and the wait to go to districts would kill me, but if the pack is good otherwise, it’s not worth leaving over.

I'd be interested if GSLAC ends up having a council race! We're up in central IL, part of the newly annexed territory. Had our district race (Railsplitter) and had only about 15 scout cars, open to all. My son won by an average of about a car length, so it wasn't very close. I grew up in O'Fallon IL and have family there so we could make an excuse to come visit if there was a council race.

So much for the cub scout motto of do your best.

We had 5 from each pack but only 2 went from ours for championship league. There was an open league for any scout within the district that wanted to race which is a good thing.

Now the top 5 from champ have moved over to council so 30 cars across 6 districts for that race.

We are definitely not changing packs. We love our pack, but don’t agree with how they send scouts to districts. We plan to show districts what a champion looks like alternate or not.
Now, what do we name our car for districts?
Bitter Bus seems to obvious.

Taking The High Road, Under Dog, don’t count me out, schooled, lesson learned, all for not, last pick, earn ur place, under represented, haha and I do like Vengeance too. Good luck!

That would be cool if GSLAC held a council race, I hope they do it next year though. My youngest ages out next spring! LOL

I've been trying to talk people into it still. Only thing council does is hold a Construction Industry Pinewood Derby as a fundraiser. I was thinking of entering it until I found out it was $500 registration fee per car. Can you say OUCHHHHH

UPDATE:
I Was Allowed to race in the open class after the council president learned the back story of my son’s alternate assignment (even though he won his pack race. The pack doesn’t send lions and tiger)
Got 1st place!!!
Would have gotten 3rd if raced with the other scouts. Only 1st and second get trophies. All the grades get medals for 1st-3rd place.
