And it was a pretty good year for my two boys! I'm bummed that I'm going to miss the first NPWDRL race this year but I'm still cleaning graphite out of every nook and cranny in my shop!
Both the boys won their respective ranks in the pack race with the youngest setting the fast lap of the day on his second run in the morning. In the finals, the little guy took out big brother by .0017 for the title of Grand Pack Champion!
We had never made the finals in the district race before but this time the boys won their respective heats to advance to the finals. In a tight finish, big brother took the win with the little guy coming in second by only .0008! Third place was right there, only .0016 behind.
We had never stayed very long at the district race to know how it worked. Apparently, our district does not retire cars, even winners. Later in the heats there were scouts and dads coming in to the venue with the cars still attached to display stands! They would be unscrewed, lubed up, and run through inspection. I was really surprised but the PWD chair said it was ok because the boys are allowed to enter one car for each year they have been in scouts. It could be a new car or an entry from their previous years. Didn't matter in the end, since my boys dispatched them all. Here's the year's hardware:
