After reading just about every post on this forum, I was looking for some guidance for painting recommendations. My son and I ultimately decided to go with the Dupli-color line from Pep Boys. We used the "Perfect Match" line of Dupli-color. Using the sealer/primer (2 coats followed by light sanding), metallic red and black paints (2 coats) followed by clear coat (2 coats), his car looks amazing!!

Last year, I probably did more of the work than I should have, stemming from my son's short attention span (he would start a process and I would inevitably have to finish). But this year (he's now 10), it's been all him and his total effort has paid off with a showroom finish-looking car. However, I told my wife that nobody is going to believe that I had almost nothing to do with the process and that she is a witness that he did everything.

With new DD4H wheels and axles (Dynasty Cheetah with 92X axles), all I am going to do in helping with polishing/prep is hold the drill for him. He'll do the rest. Looking to bring home the pack trophy this year (to us it's equivalent of the Stanley Cup). The race is next Saturday. If he wins, I just know somebody is going to cry foul.

Has anybody been in the situation where you have been called out for possible foul play? What did you do?

Also, we are thinking of waxing the car to REALLY get that wet, glassy look even though we really don't need to. Does anyone have recommendations?

Hey ya cant just tell us about a "Great Looking" car...Where is the Pics????? I dont think there is anyone here on the forum that has won that has not been called a cheat or foul or anything of the sort...It happens to us every year with new people...they just do not have the knowledge or the Xperience so they "Cry"
wah
because that is all they can do...the people that spend the time to read and ask questions and listen are the ones that will gain lots of speed...
As far as paint goes depending on how long it has been since you have clear coated the car...you do not want to wax right away as it needs to breathe. I would wax it like the night before the race but use something synthetic and I would stay away from any wax that has carnuba in it.

Carnuba? Don't know what that is, but thanks for the info and unless my son wants to add another coat of clear coat, the car will now sit and rest until we put the wheels on the night before (about a week). Do you have any particular product in mind? Or should I just get any synthetic car wax sans carnuba?

I'll get a pic of the car tonight and post. Nothing really fancy. Just metallic red with white stripe down the middle (we were going to use black, but my son changed his mind after seeing the car following red paint).

I really hate to reccomend anything as most of the products I use are pretty Xpensive only because I use them on real cars not just PWD. I am a big fan of 3M and Meguires.

Took a couple of pics this morning of my son's car. However, not sure how to post them.

He's sooooooo excited about the upcoming race. Last night, I thought he was going to sleep with the car under his pillow. He's so completely proud of the work he's put in and so am I. The results speak for themselves. Our neighbor and friend who competes with us in the AWANA Grand Prix saw the car last night and said....."We're in trouble, aren't we?"

..........YES YOU ARE!!!!!!!!

We ordered the new block for the AWANA race from DD4H and it should be coming in the mail any day now. My son wants to make the car the same as PWD car, just with different colors. He said he wanted black metallic for this one.

This whole thing is so much fun and so addicting!

Click the search tab above. Type in the search box type "Picture Posting". that will take you to a thread that tells you haow to do it. Dont get frustrated with it, I had a heck of a time doing it when I first came here too. Good luck!

Here is a picture of my son painting one of his cars.

The year before this we used the car on a stick method with Daddy holding the stick.
That worked out great until he learned how to do it by himself.

Great pic Mike/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif Im gonna show this to Brock. Hell be even more excited than he already is.

Curtis, I get a little paranoid myself of the potential for those that want to cry foul but we have a pretty
good group based on last years experience. Would love to see a pic of that great paint job. We are big fans of Dupli-color paints too. Its all we use now after much trial and error.

Finally figured out the pic posting thing!!!!!!! I like the stick method of painting. Very cool. We used a 2x4 with 3 screws in it to prop the car up.

8 days and counting til raceday.

Below are the results of using Dupli-Color paints. Last year my son used enamel paints. They did the job but the end result was nowhere near showroom finish. The pictures below aren't the best but you get the idea. Very shiny. Not a bad job for a 10 yr old doing it all by himself, huh?
