Slow Poke Helper Plan Idea

It would be cool to come up with a Slow Poke helper plan. Like guys that have been trying hard but just can't find that speed. Maybe like 'Under a Pros Wing' or bottom five of the last race series gets special help. I'd hate to see guys get discouraged and leave!

What do you Guys think? What would be a good way to do it?

You would feel completely different if you were at the other end of the spectrum. You feel the way you do because you have everything to gain and nothing to lose, no offence intended at all. I've been at both ends of it so I can relate. This forum and John's products are the slow poke helper plan! Guys that make it to the top work very hard at it. You can get close but you won't likely be at the top in under six months. I've been doing this for five years. QT's been at it for three. Johns been at it for seven years. Guys come in and try and reinvent the wheel. I'm a firm believer in the K.I.S.S. principle. Master whats known before venturing out into other territories. It is not as hard as a lot of people try to make it. Quiters never win and winners never quit! Experience is what is needed, enjoy the ride man! /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

Peace,
Kinser

P.S. I still remember the whiny, sniveling PM I sent John years ago and I still remember his rebuke. It keeps me grounded!

Its not for me Kinser, I'm thinking about a little info to keep some of the others from leaving! I'd rather have 200 good racers then 20 top tier. More people, more fun, more posts, more money to keep the races going. Ask John, I think he would rather have 200 buying from him then 20!!!

That's what this whole forum is for. This is the day and age where everybody wants it now. Take a while and peruse the info here and you'll be doing what 99% of everyone is doing. I want it to grow too! You could hand it to them on a silver platter and at the end of the day they'd still leave and tell every one what they were told. Who'd have an edge? The new guy that hasn't started to try anything and hasn't spent any money or time on it or the guy that's spent thousands of dollars and hours on it? Seems fair, right?

I'd rather have that too. Here's what happens instead: They learn about something that's a "Secrete" and then they think they'll start their own league and sell the secret as theirs. They backbite, build discontent, PM behind the scenes and take dissenters with them. So now the forty you built is back down to twenty.

He would and so would I. See the previous explanation.

The guys that PM me and ask for help get it. I don't give it to them but guide them to their own process. I've done this several times, most guys will stop at some point. Some really don't even start for fear that I'm going to learn their "Secrete". It's funny because they don't really have one. I hope that some guys have saved some money from my advice but I can't always be sure. John was the one guy that put it all together and developed his own process and you all have access to it.

In the end the only thing a guy really has is the prestige of winning and if you give it away you don't even have that.

Peace,
Kinser

Please don't misunderstand what my meaning is concerning this. I understand it. With all well and good, most racers only stick around for a couple plus years. I wish they would stay longer and participate for life but they don't. Most of the guys that raced MOTM 2011 don't race anymore. I wish they would! We had a strong group of great builders and it would be great to still have them with the additional great builders we have now. That would be awesome!

There's so much free speed information on this forum it would shock you what's out there if you read through old threads. Also, John sells this amazing DVD which basically spills the beans on the secrets that John used for years. Sure QT figured something out that puts him above John's DVD, but like Chris said, he's been at it for years. People that give up and quit after one race because their car is "slow" just shows that this is just a hobby to them and not a passion like a lot of the top racers have. THAT is what separates the top "fast" racers from the "slow" ones. Don't believe me? Look at the times posted a couple years ago. QT was not at the top nor was Chris. But they're still here and now look where they are at. This hobby isn't like a sport where if you have natural ability you become an overnight sensation. Takes time and patience. Both of which I need a lot more of.

Hear what you saying Ice, and it's a nice idea. But for all you newer guys reading, reread what Kinser posted. We all have different goals, different strengths ect. And Often times depending on you skill level there is something to learn from everyone. I recall one time a new poster had a relative "basic" problem. Even though I basicly new the solution, it reminded me of a fundmental.

What I'm getting at is 99% is already in print and just needs to be read, learned, practiced, and applied. The next half a percent is usually available with a PM. The first 99% alone will get you sub three.

There are several great mentors in this league. I'm middle of the pack, but wouldn't be if it weren't for several great mentors. Thanks guys if you're reading. But to get higher is on my shoulders.

Granted the size of the library has probably doubled since I joined a year ago, there is good info all the way back. Which leads me to a question I've had for a while so I'll start a new thread.

There is a lot of information on this forum. Along with the DD4H DVD, and practicing the car prep basics over and over there is no reason why everyone can't be competitive in this league.

The one thing I have noticed though as a newer racer is when racers post questions you never really know if the person answering the question has any more experience than the person asking about the subject. You have to do some digging to see if the person answering the question is a top racer in the league.

its my impression that most racers here would not have a problem PMing or emailing someone they think can help them before just giving up....although I know this could be a debatable statement....lol

I also think that the guys racing here for awhile and have a lot of experience have no problems helping other racers work thru the process as Kinser stated....but again its up to those racers who feel they are a bit stuck to take the initiative and just ask!...I don't think anyone would bite someones head off for asking for help...you just may get different kinds of advice depending on who you ask is all...

But I certainly do agree that its nice and desirable to have a lot of racers that will hopefully stay on and race for a long time to come.....

I'm just glad there are other "pineheads" that revel in the entertainment a $5 block of wood can bring...

Here's a secret when evaluating responses
AddEmoticons08013
Look for the badges and evaluate the response appropriately.

So you can diregard mine now.

+1 There are some top racers who post very little, There are some top posters that race very little (/images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif)

When someone does post glaringly wrong advice it gets corrected pretty quickly from others. Yes some have different opinions about what works. I have given advice but it is basically just parroting what was said in a buried post from an experienced builder.

I think if John wants to offer a free registration to the last place finisher of the novice race its a nice idea to keep newbies like me from getting discouraged. I finished second to last in the SS Am race so even I would not have saved the $10. Yet I just ordered some more goodies and I am going back to the drawing board.

If you follow the prep info that comes with the kit John sales you should have no problem build a 2.984-87 car with ease.. If you drill the car correct. Also keep it simple.. I promise there's is nothing special I'm doing , and for that matter if we did tell you exactly what we was doing people wouldn't believe us... Best advice is follow johns steps and you'll do fine..

I think I can recite the DVD by heart and must agree with JBD. The tips in the DVD will get you to sub 3.

One idea I thought of along the lines of this topic:

Maybe if a particular racer is struggling, a pro could take a look at that car and suggest where the racer needs to make improvements.
Like your weight balance is way off or you should try polishing the bores next time. Or in ODD's case, don't use CA glue for lube!

I know I have stepped out and helped a few racers but everyone need to keep in mine .. All the goodie don't get told that easy... I had to work hard to find speed ... It takes time it don't happen over night... Patience and neatness, and taking notes is the best advice. Don't race to compare yourself to a PRO racers. Race your own times monthly .. That's what I did ..

I have been doing that jbd and still no sub 3 for me. But guess what u don't here me complain about it. Only ran two races and got faster so I am happy with that. I love playing with the cars and learning.
