Sons Derby Car 2014

Tell your son that is one sweet looking car! Fenders look very smooth, I can never get mine quite that smooth looking, too impatient. Good luck at Districts!

NPWDRL Family-

Thank You all for the very kind comments.... Sitting here reading them to my son each night and he is giggling and looking at his car online put a smile on his face ear to ear... PRICELESS!!

Again I only have the basic skills and the building tips I have learned from so many of you here on the forum is what allowed me to share with our son .... Again Thank You All!!! /images/boards/smilies/thumb.gif/images/boards/smilies/wave.gif/images/boards/smilies/thumb.gif/images/boards/smilies/wave.gif/images/boards/smilies/thumb.gif/images/boards/smilies/wave.gif/images/boards/smilies/thumb.gif/images/boards/smilies/wave.gif/images/boards/smilies/thumb.gif/images/boards/smilies/wave.gif

I can only take credit for a very small part in his car build... He learned about the tools and was able to use all but one main tool.. The Table saw was not an option this year for him to use as we cut his kit body down on a 10" saw blade... He did use all the tools to cut the body shape as I watched him.. So he was able to use the Scroll saw with my hands on his at times, the Dremel was a must for most of this build and a hand sander.. We did work with CA glue, Spot Putty, a Pin Vise and a small jig & small clamps, primer and paint... I would say he had a minimum of 85%-90% of the main work on the body and axle prep was close to 75% as he started to phase out the last night before the race.. So dad had to finish up the prep as I did get very busy for 2-1/2 hours helping the 3 Scouts, so he wanted to play in between helping them ...

I am very Proud of my son as he saved up and bought his own weights, to do the car like his Papa's as he wanted to do... It all started with him seeing Blue By You run in Last April's race... "I want my car to be like yours Papa" melts my heart knowing he really worked hard even though people still comment I did the build myself he has alot of time for an 8 year old.. I have the pictures to show his work in progress as some made it to FaceBook to share...

I will say I did set us back a bit when routing out the weights pockets I took out the axle area.. We had to cut not one body but 2 bodies and he stuck with me as his face dropped when he heard those fantastic words out of my mouth..Crap I can't Believe I just ruined your car... Bleep, Bleep , Bleep... So all in all he he spent a lot of time in the Basement/Papa/Son/Daughter Cave as out work area is down stairs since we have it all to ourselves.... He never Gave Up!!! He stayed with me even though he was sad he didn't quit on me or hate me!!! Shew!!! That was a rough night... I felt so bad when I saw his face... But his experience and the things he learned from my mistake will better him as a person...

Darshan , you are my Little Buddy and I am proud of you Son!!! Love you and I can see the Smile on your face as you read this... Hope you do well with the Districts March 22nd Buddy!! I am your biggest fan and Cheerleader
