Hey everybody new to the form. Background: my son sweep his pack the last two years last year at district and the council we took 7th. But this year we want to step up our game at district and council. We use a racing axle that is grooved out towards the head of the nail. Cog is alittle bit in front of the rear axle. We use graphite a good kind to. Oh and we run four wheels but only three touch. At his pack its a wooden track where at district its a aluminum track any tips I would appreciate.

All the best tips have been written down. Learn to use the search button. Sort and filter info by the speed badges held by the racer. Read for a few weeks. Then build and ask if not clear. This is the place. There is gold in them thar hills. Go start digging.

Welcome JX, there are a lot of tips and TX is right you are going to have to do some reading. I will tell you it all starts with how you drill the block of wood. Learn how to build canted 3 wheel rail runners, (NOT RAIL RIDERS) and yes that even includes having to use the slots. If you follow the techniques here you will destroy the competition.

I understand the notion of reading and research I have a dergree was reaching out on here to see if anyone had any secrets or a techniques that I might be able to try thanks

Start with this:

Then there's this:

There are better ways to do everything with regards to a pinewood derby car build, is there anything in particular we can help you with?

Don't feel insulted. It's just every year around this time that same question is asked or posted about 50 times. So it's not you, it's just the answer has already been posted /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif about 10 times.

secrets or a techniques = walgreens studio 35 , novus 2 , red rocket, burnish, rail runner, 5/8 com, 4" per 4'

Good start guys?

Welcome to the forum. Follow the links from 5kids for a start. I've noticed that some guys get confused with the steer on the DFW (Dominant Front Wheel). Your front wheels should look like this | when looking at the car from the front. It doesn't have to be that large of a degree but you get the idea. /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

Waxes are the only thing not listed (well actually Red Rocket is a wax). Spray axels of a graphite car with pledge. Wax wheel bores before burnishing with graphite.

If you follow all the steps, make sure you're right at 5 oz., and have good alignment you'll have a good car.

If allowed use light wheels for a jump at the start and ability to add more weight aft.

Just go fivekids web site! It is the best. Its all here you just have to look for it. Good luck!
