Speed

I would ask how did the SS Am go (I was not able to watch today), but I know what the answer is already.

Troy, one thing I noticed about tuning on my track. I tend to wear out wheels. How many runs are on your fastest wheels? Mine start to lose their speed (several .00X's anyway) by around 40 runs.

I'm pretty stoked - I took 3rd in the SS Am class. I do have to give a lot of thanks to a number of folks here who helped me find some speed since my fist entry in the NPWDRL. I know I have asked a lot of seemingly stupid (and sometimes repetitive) questions.

But....

I am almost 4 100ths off the pace of the top pro in the Street Stock Pro class. CR*P!!!! I don't have a single clue where to find that much speed.

Ehhhh...not so stoked anymore. Hey Tre - you and I have some work cut out for us, don't we...These guys are FAST!

Not sure what the heck happened to my cars, my slowest car in testing was my fastest car today and the fastest car was the slowest. Lots of work to do in a short time.

I can find the first 3/100ths
That depends on your point of view, but I'll keep looking with ya.

I can say though, my 4 entrants in the SS Am class, you can actually see my build quality increase. "Rookie Driver" was my first ever NPWDRL entry and while I was able to squeak a bit more speed out of it, it still finished dead last. My next 3 builds finished in the order they were made (as compared to each other). I still need to find consistency.

Thanks GX for being so encouraging...

I have noticed the same thing on my wood track. I can see roughness on the contact area of the wheel after several runs on my 39 foot track. I have been able to pick up speed by removing the wheels and taking a tiny machining cut on the OD on my lathe, maybe two or three thousandths, and polishing the OD again. This has not helped me much however in the races - still way too slow!

basx cars are faster than my SS

I didn't get a BASX car built in time for the nationals and I was really looking forward to racing in an "Entry Level" class. If you look at the posted times from the nationals at least the top 15 to 20 cars are entered from racers who are not "Entry Level" racers. That's why you are seeing times faster than SSAM cars. Is there truly an "Entry Level" class to race in?

I think I read in a post after the first series race this year that John is going to make some changes so that fast cars are racing together and slower cars race together. Hopefully that will happen for the Man Of Mountain races.

I am also baffled at the speed difference between the classes. (SS am or SS pro) But every car I build I make some minoot change that I over looked before and I get a small increase in speed. But I think to myself "is there really anymore changes I'm missing?" I guess there must be. To not have a track will stop you from getting anywhere fast and that's for sure!

Ice, my cars have never been tuned on a track. I think all can be competitive without a track. I race every month and make changes to my cars if they need it. It has taken a year to get to finals, but I'm right there with the big dogs. Maybe soon a win will come my way. You'll get there!

My fist race I made the finals and thought I had it figured out.. Boy was I wrong my car hasn't slowed down the others have got faster.. I didn't reprep from mays race just cleaned the wheels and left the steer the same... But I will not give up!!!! I'm gunning for the sub2.98 badge!!! Don't care if I win or not it will be fun trying..

Its "entry level" in the sense that it doesn't cost a lot to build a BASX car and be competitive.

The BASX class is an amazing opportunity to really dial in on the stuff that really matters, the stuff that separates the fastest from the merely fast. I'm thankful the top notch racers are participating in BASX because is shows me exactly where I have to improve in order to compete with them in other classes.

Regarding splitting BASX into AM and Pro, I personally don't agree with the Amateur/Pro split in SS or any class. It is impossible to define and then to enforce the meaning of amateur versus pro. But if there has to be an amateur class to encourage new builders then it probably should be in the BASX class, not the SS class.

I agree with you Lightning. Don't split any class that has the same rule set. I ran BASX and even though I was a long way off the mark, it was great to compare my build with every other builder with the same rule set. I think there should be six classes with no split classes (BASX, SS, SP, Eliminator, Unlimited, and SR).

I will agree that a BASX car costs less to build and be competitive. But costing less does not make the class an "Entry Level" class. When I see the words "Entry Level" I would think it is a racing class for racers that have never raced or have very little experience racing in a league.

I also agree that it is a great class to learn to prep and tune all of the things that make a car fast. But if you want to see how your cars stack up against the top league racers, one would think that entering your car in SS-PRO is a better way to do that.

Maybe "Entry Level" is not the best way to describe this class then if everything you posted is how the rest of the league racers look at this class.
