April 2012 I decided to build my first SS. It was a lot of fun, but I was never able to get it very fast. I named it the Shark-tooth. I gleaned many good ideas from this forum in that build. I wish I would have read more, but I learned a lot building this car. I always seem to learn the hard way and would do things very differently now.
Here it is all painted. I'm sure y'all can see things that you would change right away. John and others were nice to help me gain speed, but this car was not the speedster I envisioned as I built it. I made another big mistake on this build and it was filling the entire rear of the car with weight (prior to the extended wheel rule amendment). It was very inconsistent.
I decided there was still hope. I wanted to strip it down, adjust my weight placement, and try to narrow everything down so it wouldn't be so bulky and hopefully improve the aerodynamics. I was going to chop the fenders down even more, but wanted to stay with a similar, but more sleek design. There it is in it's battle worn state sitting on my Math binder (I probably should have been working on my math homework instead of sanding/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif ).
I decided I needed something to go to war with in the SS Armature division. As a kid I loved G.I. Joe and thought that theme would be perfect for this restoration. I honestly think it would have been quicker to start over completely, but it was a lot of fun. I'm thinking this will be a good test to see if I could apply what I have learned over the last little while. I really liked the shark-tooth and couldn't bear to see it not do well. I hope the changes I have made will gain some speed at the next race. Stay tuned, and always remember that "Knowing is half the battle".
