Starting the build early

We just finished our yearly scout race and I'm ready to start work on the improvements.

How long will a built car last?
Do I need to worry about the wood warping?
What are some pointers on starting a build early?

I would suggest sealing the wood to avoid warp. Relax the axle holes so the wheels can be removed for cleaning and re prep. When your race does come around you'll be able to remove everything clean and apply a fresh prep. Build a tune table so you can test your drill to make sure the wheels migrate to the axle heads before spending a lot of time on a poorly drilled block. I learned so much watching DD4H video on how to use oil. The video covers much moor than just oil. Make a few cars and if one does warp you'll have back up. Use Tungsten 1/4 " cubes, they can be switched quickly and reused from car to car. Have fun!

Store your car with a desiccant pack? A thought if your worried about moisture or warpness.

We race all the time bud! That's how you get fast, that's what my virtual trophies are from. Come race with us! The wife will like it better than a lot of activities a man can participate in. FWIW, I have a car that I built 3 1/2 years ago with nothing but a sharpie coloring on it. I usually keep axles installed unless I'm repreping it. It still wins here.
