STREET ROD!

The RULES

Please clarify: "Tape can be used only to hold the body to the chassis and cover the bottom but not to create aero advantages." If I cover the bottom from front bumper/spoiler to chassis and then chassis to rear bumper, am I not creating an aero advantage?

How does everyone ship these cars? Body off?

I am actively working on mine. /images/boards/smilies/cool.gif

Tape can be used for side windows also.
When it says no tape for aero advantage means no tape over grilles, openings, or to smooth edges.

The Street Pro, Eliminator and Unlimited use guide pins/fins in place of the 4th wheel on the car. Go here and scroll down the page to see some examples.

Rules also say you have to use original windows, well I suck at painting so wrapped them in tape and then installed them...

Then to hold them in I just used masking tape.

Would a car like that be "legal"? It looks like the front of the front wheels would be past the start pin? Letter "h" in the rules has kept me from choosing a body like that.

The following Modifications are not allowed

a. Starting or finish line devices
b. Electronic or lighting devices
c. Glass or extremely fragile parts
d. Paint that is wet, smudges or extremely sticky
e. Bearings and/or Bushings
f. Sharp objects, sandpaper or abrasives on the bottom of car (We do not want any damage to the rubber stopping pads)
g. Axles and/or wheels attached to any device that mechanically or alters rotation and spin
h. Any part of the car to go beyond the starting peg

Can someone possibly share some links to pages that might provide some additional detail or tips on building a street rod? I google'd it for a bit but didn't really get any hits that were worthwhile. K-racing's pics above at least gives me an idea of what you guys are doing with the body and frame. I've never tried this but I dig muscle cars and would like to maybe put something together.

TIA

Thanks 5Kids...looks very kewl. I think I've already got a Superbee model stored in a box somewhere that I made as a kid that may get a new lease on life. ;-)

I thought for those new to this class I would post a few pic's of the the way I mounted the body to the chassis. You will have to come up with you own measurements, these pictures will just give you a little visual. The first picture is of the side pieces that I attach to the body. I just use a epoxy to secure.

The next is what you do to the chassis to mount it to the body

Once the screws are in the chassis and the side mounts are on just slip the body on.

Paint the inside of the windows black. Install them after the rest of the body is painted and cleared. (Not to say your windows look bad -- they don't -- but the painting of them requires (should require) next to no skill)

Yeah, it looks like a pro-stocker and you'd expect to see it fully tubbed with some steam roller slicks out back. Great stance.

After seeing what 5kids did to everyone at Mid-America, you know it's got both show and Go!

The body is off is the way I would ship. My body is easy to put on and off though. Some cars are all taped up on the bottoms so it would be more difficult to ship body off. I have also shipped in the smaller legends box with a strip of foam on the bottom down the center, felt on the top, and some wedges for the front and back.
