Taking the plunge but need a shove.

OK I decided to build a car to send in. I won't be able to get everything this first time around and I am debating what to get first. I have a problem with over thinking stuff sometimes.

Here is what I have already
Drill press
#44 drill bit
Scroll saw
Axle polish supplies (sandpaper 400-2000)
Bore polish (q-tips, Novus2, Liquid Glass, pipe cleaners)
Pledge
graphite
Stock BSA wheels/axles

Here is what I don't have and think I need:
"The Silver Bullet" $40
tungsten cubes $20
Oil $20
DVD $25
Jig-a-loo (or substitute) $10-20

I had my DD4H shopping car filled for "the bullet", Oil, and 4oz tungsten then I second guessed myself about it. I have never done oil so I assume if I am even going to do it I would have to go both feet in and get the DVD, oil, and Jig to do it properly. I am was hoping to stay under $100. Would it even be worth sticking with graphite for this next event and just get the "bullet" and weights now? Or get the DVD, oil, and jig(or available substitute)?

DVD is best, but just for oil alone, just prep you nails as has been explained in many places on this forum.
Then prep the wheel bores, which has also be very adequately described.
Afterwards, just 2 drops of oil on the nails, mount the wheels, adjust the steer, and there you go.

well you don't want to go graphite then oil on the same set of wheels. And to go oil, you will need to polish up to 15k. (axle polish kit)

When you're ready, you will want v3 Cheetas and choose the NPWDRL option of removing the bumps and a set of 92 grooved axels. You could get one prebent so you know what it would look like.

I am not familiar with the trade names of the bore polish, but I believe what you have listed will be fine.

A different thought that would keep you on budget, get a predrilled block, that'll open your budget to the wheels and axles. Get the bullet next time around.

I know not to mix. I would prep a new set when switching. Thinking even more about it, I would be more inclined to get the DD4H axle prep kit instead of the dvd since that comes with instructions for oil prep.

OK here is what I have it narrowed down to now.

Bullet
Weights
Oil

Over the following races I will upgrade to dynasty axles+axle prep kit, and cheetah V3s. Will pick up jig-a-loo or some other alternative over that time as well.

The plan is to get the whole list, just can't do it all at once. I settled on the 3 I mentioned. Will build a car with stock parts then upgrade as I go.

I use this for the weight behind the rear axle.

Most put 12 cubes behind the rear axle, these plates just mount easy and faster. I save the cubes for making fine adjustments in front of the rear axle.

I would also get this:

It will make it MUCH easier to bring the car to exactly 5oz.

Just listed some variations of products you already have listed. A question though: Do you have a way of bending the axle for the FDW? Its expensive, but I use this axle bender (I really hate to use a hammer in any phase of build a car):

Just got my 24x 1/4" tungsten cubes in the mail. I weighed them on my scale which is pretty accurate and they weighed out at 3.8oz. I got them from eBay and the description said they'd weigh between 3.8-4oz. Was hoping they'd be closer to 4oz but not a big deal adding .2oz with putty if I need it. Now just trying to be patient waiting for the silver bullet and DD4H oil.

I bought tungsten cubes from DD4H and while I didn't weigh 24 cubes I weighed two sets of 18 and they both weighed 3.08 oz. I know 24 cubes would have weighed about 4.10 oz.

Well I got the weight pockets, lightening pockets, and axle holes drilled in my first block. I used a router to do it and turned out pretty clean.

I got my end mill bits in today so I gave that a whirl one a second block. That did not go well at all. I thought I was going OK until it grabbed and about pulled my hand into the bit and chewed up the pocket. That scared the sh!+ out of me. My drill press only goes up to 3700rpms. I think it is too slow or I got a crappy bit.

Wow! That sounds like a close call there. Glad that you didn't get injured. You... don't suppose... that Brown Ale clouded judgement do ya? J/K I've been known to have a drink while working these cars.

Nah. I popped that open after I junked that second block. I think I will stick to what I know and use a router.
