Gulfport Ms.
If you're a fan of the man in black, not the country music one, the real one that toted the big white 3 on his door, we sure could use your help. Respectfully speaking, we've already heard all the reasons why it CAN'T run a BSAX sub 3 but suggestions how to make it faster please. Being a converted AWANA car, even having to overcome what many would call a career ending injury the little car that couldn't laid down a 2.9949 off the trailer w/2.9883 average at John's last Tuesday.

Billy " the really," dumb Red Neck sanded too much off the bottom and the right rear axle boss said adios. All it needed was a KISS and the Do It For Dale pit crew working like a Chocolate Myers fuel man it showed up at the big house with a patched up axle boss. Chunking his $19.95 jig in the trash, then to add wood back to the bottom and a Silver Bullet Xtreme re-drill, Billy now has an app for that. No "just build another one" please because we're on a mission to prove all the nay sayer's wrong. The Legends on this Forum surely have some tricks up their sleeves to help the little darlin' shave a hundredth or 4 to help it become more competitive in the BASX.

Dead on 5 oz, 7/8" COM, 1/8th too short off the nose, 1/8 shaved DFW, 5 1/4" EWB and 2 1/2" @ 4' is what we're working with fellers.

Thanks.......RRR

Good job at your first league race!

So,, You want to improve what you have and not start over. With that in mind....
Forget about center on mass!!. All the theory talk in videos etc is over rated. Hollow the body out from the bottom as much as possible to lighten the body as much as possible (without making it too flexy). Use the 1/4 tungsten cubes to weight it. Put 12 behind the rear axle and the rest in front of the rear axle as far back as possible. Cover the bottom with foil tape. There is more to experiement with here but this will get you very close.

Now if you really want to get serious then you need to buy the tools to check the drill. Even with a SBE it can be off slightly and a little bit can be the difference between average and above average.

Good luck!

Thanks Scott, still love your avatar man. Yes a re-weighting can be done without destructive measures. Was planning on a pure tungsten bar behind the rear axle and the rest in cubes in front. Ordering some air craft length bits and use my angle finder to check if the new rear holes are siamese up and front to rear.

Is it true a slight toe in on the rears helps out ? Perhaps that's why John suggests a slight hand pressure forward when using his Bullet to drill rears. I think there's still some speed to be had with some mods. If not, it won't be from the lack of trying.

Thanks Buddy.......RRR

Thanks about my avatar.

A solid bar in the rear is good too. My point was don't even bother with measuring COM especially with the car you are working with. As built it will never be too heavy in the rear to worry about. My advice about lightening the rest of the body is part of the puzzle. Tungsten alone will not do it! Every little thing put together adds up to a lot.

You don't need special extra long bits/pins/drill-blanks. Not saying that for the anal retentive that it may be better though. A good straight edge, a couple 1-2-3 blocks, standard gauge pins, and a flat surface it plenty good enough. Don't know about an angle finder though...

Perhaps a slight toe in or toe out can be faster. The gains found there are TINY compared to the rest. So for now you need to master getting the rears as perfect as possible. That is much more important than the advanced thoughts of a very slight toe in or out.

Yeah, the whole toe in/out rear thing has me scratching my head. Don't have the 1 2 3's but that's a definite option. You gotta remember I've been an AWANA youth group builder for a minute where the competition was light and the wins were easy...LOL. Now in a strange new land but whatever it takes Brother, whatever it takes.

Welcome to "league racing" where every little thing makes a difference. Open your mind... think about perfection and how to achieve it. But don't get bogged down in the super advanced theories! Honestly, perfection of the basics will get you very close.

That was the mindset of my traveling softball team. Don't worry about making the spectacular plays. The routine plays when performed perfectly will make the difference. Get every out every time you're supposed to.

Hey RRR, been wondering, what axles did you throw on there? I’m assuming you bought vendor axles and aren’t still using the Awana axles? Just double checking to be sure. Can’t remember what you told me before. Those Awana axles won’t cut the mustard in a class that allows aftermarket.

Thanks Mr Jimmy, ran Troy’s King 92’s and used his polishing system. Ended up with a good finish under a loupe. I spent the better money on Carley’s car. Too keep the head bookkeeper happy I used Troy’s second best wheels which are still great but I did polish up some old AWANA axles from the stock pile and used them. Thanks probably why I only managed some 3.0’s. Lol gonna focus on shaving off as many hundreds as I can off the Intimadator to get it more competitive before it gets retired and ends up hanging on the wall in a shadow box.
