I want to thank everyone here that has posted anything because we've taken advice from so many of you. I've read and compared so many posts. Thanks MOFAST for getting us here. I posted many seemingly odd and maybe even dumb questions on here in an effort to understand what makes these cars go fast. Last year we didn't even make it to Districts and we only had 7 kids in our Den.

My boy took 7th in Bears today at the Council race out of 47 cars. The difference between 1st and 2nd place was .0008 of a second after combining times of 6 heats. I haven't seen a race where the timer takes it to 4 digits. The race staff were very conscious of any track issues and very professional.

Congrats!!

Way to go! Now you just need to send a car in here. The difference between here and scout races will blow your mind! It is a blast, I'm hooked! Tell your son good job and look forward to seeing one of your cars race here.

I'll 2nd that.

Was not sure how I felt about a proxy race, but sent my cars in to John and they came back just as fast(or slow in my case). Being an outsider, I can say he and everyone else involved took great care with my cars and return shipping as fast as could be expected. It must have been a lot of work, more than a typical scout race.

Its not like being there, but if you enjoy the build, there is no better way to do it (plus it will keep you from over-running your son's build, if you are like me). 60+ people were online watching, with plenty of banter to go around.

I'm hooked.

Thanks. I forgot the best part. After the race and we're walking out to the car my boy says with a big smile, "Thanks Dad for helping me build this fast car." I' heard it couple times again after that too.

He came up with the design and with supervision he cut it out with a handsaw and dremel, polished wheels and axles on the drillpress and stuck with me while we aligned it. Some nights we only got one axle or one wheel done because he'd either lose interest or a better offer would come along like a friend would stop by. We started it back in Nov when we got the kit and somehow never really get it race ready until the morning of each race. I did some touchup along the way of course but this was the car he wanted.

Congrats!

The kids love making cars...
Here is a pic of my son and I building that Giants car you all hate...

Congratulations, wish I could have been there but family obligations prevented that.
Way to go!

Which age group does your boy race in?
