Lawerence William Badowski AKA Billy the not so dumb Red Neck needs your help AND feels he owes the Forum an apology. It's about Friday's replies in regard to the Thread "Billy's Red Neck Wheel Gap Tool" under the Pinewood Derby Tools section. Billy, being the caring person he is, felt badly about the somewhat spirited replies of himself defending his position and apologizes to those of whom he may have offended. Billy used the credit card routine as a quick get by when building his first AWANA car and just never went away from it. Five cars a year is a minuscule number vs many on the forum but he built cars for his kids during their AWANA years, himself in the open division plus helping others and using the card ,but that was 15 years ago or more and my how things have changed. Billy had me open the Gap Tool thread with "Now this will open a Pandora's box of opinions" and felt he had me make clear the fact that you can sand the card to your preferred gap setting. Perhaps it wasn't clear enough. Billy still holds to his opinion the card is a good get by for the novice on a budget. Especially if they sand the card and have access to someone's Vernier Caliper or Micrometer. Billy's still also convinced some cars want more or less gap than others. Even though Billy had some success in the distance past using old faithful and is now building for his granddaughter that recently won 1st in speed while setting a new track record on a 42' Computer Timed Best Track in its 10th year of use using Billy's methods. Billy the not do dumb Red Neck has realized things are different than 15 years ago, needs to change some prep and build methods and is smart enough to know you're not competing against many Rocket Ships at an AWANA Event. He's heeding the advice from members and will be changing his gap to something more optimal. Having said that, Billys much older now and has some serious health issues. He woke up Saturday feeling poorly and we thought he was still upset about letting the Forum down. With the Coronovirus being the boogie man in the closet we took him to the ER. Being the comical guy he is, while in the ER cubicle awaiting test results he said "Maybe I have influenza, I slept with the window open the other night and In Flew Enza". Luckly it was just a sinus infection and he's ok. He's still wanting to build cars as long as he can for his Granddaughter PLUS he's trying to help his Niece and Nephew with 6 kids get started. He's arranged for the cutting of the templates, main weight holes, rear cants and raised NDFW. It being an extended family with so many AWANA aged kids Billy's compiled a get by budget shopping list on the inner web using some of the get by products suggested on this forum that can get them everything else they need to build a family fleet at a bargain price. The one thing he hasn't nailed down is an automotive product or another alternative for bore wax. The family will be building a ton of cars over the years and waxing a lot of bores. While raising 6 kids and possibly the Mom and Dad racing in the Open Class it's not feasible for them to buy a small vial of speciality Pinewood Bore Wax. To avoid controversy Billy had me compile a list of products listed in a poll above this post to get a feel of what the majority of the forum members like best. If your favorite product isn't on the list you can add yours in a reply but please no controversy. Billy says thanks in advanve and be sure to tip your waitress !! P.S. I've set up the poll correctly and you're vote will register but not you handle.....RRR

You could probably buy a couple jars of Red Rocket for the price of some top shelf auto product. Something tells me its not gonna be that simple. Lol
SS......You're probably right about the not simple part. LOL Between Billy's shock treatments and the heavy meds sometimes he doesn't know if he's sloping the chickens or feeding the hogs. Even though he sometimes can't retain all his sense he looks at every think in dollars and cents. But regardless the ole boys good at ciphering. Look at his thread under wheels and axles. Billy's Red Neck Common Core Krytox Equation and you'll get an insight of Billy's world and the way he thinks. Billy's gonna use RR for his next build as he builds only 1 car per year for his Granddaughter's AWANA GP but he's trying to help his nephew with 6 AWANA age kids and working 2 jobs get started.on a budget. He'll be building a lot of cars the next few years. In Billy's mind it's not the couple of 9.99 1/4 oz. jars but throw in the shipping that DD4H has no control over and its not his fault you're at or near the same price point of the auto products for 16-18 ozs that will last for years. Billy's with ya on RR and will use it and his nephew will probably follow suit once he gets on better footing. Check out Billy's Krytox thread. Billy and his way of thinking is just too funny. LOL

I am by no means fast compared to people here but my granddaughter has never lost a heat at her church race. (Most AWANA tracks are 30'. The 30' Best track record that I've seen was around 2.54x BTW. She races on a MW which will give 2.50x times for the same car. )I used Griot's Garage Ceramic 3in1 as an experiment for her car this year and she was consistently .01x or more faster than the same set up last year with Meguir's NXT . I have a race to run this weekend and I may just prep my really good wheels the same way and see what happens.

XJ....Thanks for the info. That's one fast car. Hope Billy's Rocket ship at an AWANA event statement didn't send the wrong message. All his Kids, wife, himself and now his granddaughter have ever competed in is AWANA. As you know AWANA or at least all the AWANA Events Billy's been associated with, if you follow the Official Rules on the AWANA Grand Prix Official Rules web site the rules are quiet limited vs like you said "I am by no means fast compared to people here" which Billy too was comparing against. There is some disparity in the build sheet that comes in the kit vs the Official AWANA web site rules. In round numbers, referring to wheel slots and lube, the kit build sheet simply say's insert axles in the slots provided and lubricate (paraphrased). That leaves a huge loop hole of self interpretation in regards to lube. The Official rules web site clearly states use of the provided slots is not required and it's also definitive in using a dry lube only. Billy called AWANA headquarters and asked to speak to someone one associated with the GP. The lady he spoke with was unaware of the disparity and her only thoughts were there must be a disconnect somewhere in the supply line. Billy's careful to assume but he said apparently they may use multiple vendors or occasionally change vendors from time to time possibly thru a bid process....just Billy's 2 cents. Of course any church can apply whatever rules to abide by. To avoid self interpretation of what lube means Billy recommended to our GP Director to consider downloading the Official Rules and supply each participant with their own copy when they receive their kit for the next GP so everyone's playing on a level playing field unless the vendors make the needed changes in their build sheet. Enough of my Blah Blah.....LOL. Billy certainly wasn't throwing rocks at AWANA or the GP. I just post what he tells me to and he hopes it wasn't interpreted otherwise. Congratulations on your Granddaughters amazing record and speed., very impressive. Billy was out of the build business for 15 years or more and my my my how have things changed with speed. His Granddaughters 1st GP was 2016 and her Dad just threw her car together and it didn't even make it to the finish line. Of course she was disappointed and embarrassed and didn't want to "quote" ever race again and Billy couldn't talk her out of it in 2017. Billy couldn't stand it and in 2018 he told her Sweetheart PaPa will build you a car that i promise you will make it past the finish line. So Billy drug out his old build bag and using (unknown to him) his old build techniques. Didn't win any heats but was close in a couple and would say "I almost won that one". So by 2019 she was ready and Billy had made some changes in build techniques. She won all her heats and made it to the final 4 (42' 4 lane Computer Timed Best Track 10 years of use at the Church) and had a firm grip on 2nd place until her car jumped in the same lane a few other cars had jumped in off and on all night which no-one took the time to determine why. So she ran hard all night but went home with nothing but a banged car to show for her efforts. By 2020 Billy thru the help of this Forum most everything was done in an improved fashion. He's in less than stellar health and no longer trusts his ambulatory reflexes using his scroll saw and drill press so he had his cousin cut the template and drill the main weight holes. Billy, with his trembly hands, did the rest sitting in his chair or breakfast table. They had run the younger age groups and had a few impressive times. When T & T started she was in the first heat and set an all time new track record on the ten year old track. Finished undefeated, running graphite and no heat remotely close except in the finals when she beat the perennial winner by a car length plus a gap. Best wishes in your Granddaughters continued success and as Billy always says Be sure to tip your waitress. Interpreting for Billy......RRR
