The Silver Bullet

OK I see wow ok I just have the 2 cars that Derby dad built for me and I am now getting all of the right stuff together and a practice track to test them with

I got my other son he is 3 now and when he joins the cubscouts when he is 5 we Plan to take the derby championships every Year lol

I dont know if i will ever be able to actuelly Build a car as fast as the 2 I have lol becuase their 3 second cars but i can for sure Try

I now have noticed I am doing it all wrong even trying to build these things i need the correct tools to do it with

I dont have a very good way to cut my blocks though i have a portaband saw but not a and saw

i also notice That the rear of my cars are hllowed out for tungsten putty wieghts and i think that can be done with a dremel

my son see these derby dad cars and wants to build one that beats it I said well son you will have to work very hard to come close but if you even come close your car will still whoop them all his 2 cars beats the compotition by 3 car lenghts or more

Thank you for the information

I have a question John How are the holes for the axles Canted for the rear and then raised for the front well i know thats a different dimension

but using the block or the silver buller how do the wheels drill canted ? do you have to set the drill press a certain way to make the axles canted

Always good stuff from 5Kids ...

A few additional notes:
- John's newest Silver Bullet has nice cutouts in the normal drilling areas, which is very helpful for not dinging your drill bit and to allow a check of axle height after clamping (be glad you waited to buy !);
- When preparing my wood, I make sure that the bottom side is as very flat, such that when I press on it's corners, it does not deflect (so it doesn't rise after you remove clamps);
- I make sure my wood blank slides smoothly into the silver bullet PRIOR to marking axle holes. If I have to, I will sand off some wood (with ~ 100 - 220 grit) from one side to make it slide nicely - otherwise you will have to re-do axle hole markings;
- The supplied pin from John works, but I prefer a longer drill blank.

The video in Gravity X post shows drilling rears and NDFW canted and at the same height in the wood block. It then shows the straight (DFW) hole drilled using same spacer to the fence as canted holes. Anybody do this? How does this work out?

Hi I'm so excited. Just ordered the silver bullet. Can't wait for it to get here. I have the derby bug. My nephew and I have raced for 2 years in the cub scouts and have won pack, district and council. But the times that I see being posted in the NPWDRL are crazy fast. I hope that THE SILVER BULLET helps us get to see some of though times. We also love reading all of the tips on the forum. We hope to be sending in a car soon to race.
Thanks for the info found on this site!!!!
