Timers

Champ timer here. I bought it from DNA when he upgraded.

if i haddnt needed to upgrade for the league racing, i would never gotten rid of it. i still think its a great timer.

I built the MW kit "cheap kit", which is really low cost and I like that

. Requires a computer to get times though. Both Ian at MW and John at newdirections ("the Judge") have great products and give excellent service. MW timers have been the only ones that reset times when the gate returns - so that's an issue if you want an auto resetting gate. I also have heard of issues with alignment of the laser gate, though maybe that's old news. Personally, I would rather time off of the pin movement. Give them both a look though.

You built the kit too? I just did one for the Pack as a 4 Lane timer for a 3 lane track. Lane masking is nice.

My single lane best track has a timer from John at new directions. I have had it since 2004 and had great results. John is also helpful if you have questions too.

smartline makes the champ. same timer different name.
when they first came out the lazers were not quite ready for primetime. now they are more accurate.

I'm sure you will enjoy that DNA !

Who knows what the real deal is with the "new chip" in our league timer ? I have heard some bits and pieces about times being affected (slower) and maybe something also about there being less chance for ties, but I am looking for the real info. Is this written up somewhere ? Thanks !!!

i do not know, but i know that as of now, i have the exact same setup as John does. that means the league tracks should all be very close in times. and thats a good thing.

I don't know of any write up on it, just experience. IIRC Before the chipset change people (John) were breaking 2.900. After the chipset change sub 3.0 became a challenge again.
