Tips for using your drill jigs!

This is what has been working for me. If you are getting bad drills the first thing to replace is the drill bit. If you are getting consistent errors with multiple drill bits then try and correct with drill manipulation to compensate for any slop in the bushing. Once you find the sweetspot you will have consistent drills.

This is helpful. The only reason I’ve been sticking with the pin vise is that it was in your original instructions. It has not been working well. Thanks!

Holding your hands in line with the drill bit helps keep angles from changing with pressure and movement. Sounds scary but it helps.

You are giving me flashbacks to the 4.3 million times my carpenter father yelled at me for not squaring my shoulder before drilling.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying? I understand the concept about not changing angles, but can not picture what you mean by "holding your hands in line with the drill bit"?

Any chance you can take a picture? My simple mind works much better with visual helpers.

2.jpg scary, easier to not add angle pressure on the jig
0.jpg safe as we were taught.
there are less variables in a drill press but that's another road to travel

PS, whoo hoo, added pics by myself. Few of you will know how that feels.

I do this with my boys and I am 100% positive there is a ton of torque when they attempt to do the pin vise.

I am sure the drill would do much better (I would need to hold it with one hand). I was thinking about doing it on the drill press and just hold the jig for them. They could come in straighter.

DOOOH Way more simple than I thought ... I guess you could call me Homer!

Yes I do know what you mean about adding pictures....took me several attempts the first time. We still have flip phones

I emailed from my phone to myself. Drag to desktop, drag to post. Pain but works for me as often as I post pics.

Okay here goes thanks Bob! I swear I've tried that before. This is my sons scout car this year! Took home district Gold and Blue but strangely enough we haven't had our pack race yet - hoping that will go just as good.
Derby Dentist that car looks real sharp!

Nice work!

thanks guys! Jimmy I was jealous of all your fenders - they look great - gonna try and put some on our next car.

John and/or TRE do you recommend using the HSS bits in a hand drill with the silver bullet pro as well. Ive also just been using the pin vise with the HSS bit for fear of affecting the bushings. Are the bushings in the silver bullet pro the same kind as the one in the Extreme?

Hey thanks! Your are too kind. They really are a benefit all other things being equal for aero. I also really enjoy shaping balsa. It shapes as easy as clay and is so cheap to get.
So other than my BASX I’ll always run fenders.
