Too early for scout car prep

Been awhile since I’ve posted anything But my son has already hit me up to start on his car for this year. That’s in March . So I thought I’d share some photos through the way.

After a lot of sanding, filling and primer, we finally got the color on.

Center is filled with balsa and we’ll cover everything with metal tape once we get the weight where we need it.

He has a good idea for graphics but I think to pull it off it will be 80/20 Dad/son on the application. Hopefully I can get him involved a little more somehow with the process.

What is the wheel base on this car? How far in is your drill from the nose? Just curious, again fenders look reaaaally good guys. Hope it runs well

Thanks everyone, he’s really pumped about this year. He new he wanted chameleon paint, and exactly what he wanted the graphics to look like. Dad just helped him execute his vision.

SuperSlow, the wheelbase is 4.75. The rear is drilled .75 from the rear of the car, front is 1.5 from the front.

Well, he googled what his saying looked like in Chinese and saved the picture. I vectorized the image and let him adjust the size and cut it out on our vinyl cutter. He weeded out all the unwanted vinyl and fitted it on the car. (Dad did the airbrush work). My son cleared it using rustoleum crystal clear (about 3 coats)

After all the filler, primer and paint work, we weighed it. Not the ideal weight but we’ll take it. No wheels or axles yet.

If we can keep it just above the 1g mark after wheels and axles, (may have to remove some filler wood underneath) I think he’ll be pretty competitive at his pack race and district race if he makes it.
