Top 10 Pinewood Derby Racers Of All Time

OK this is a crazy one. I have been asked to help with a new major project and part of it is to come up with a list of the top 10 pinewood derby league racers of all time. There have been a lot of racers over the 5 years I have been involved and there were a lot more before. Help me come up with a list of the top 10 or any suggestions you might have for it.

Great idea, just yesterday I was thinking it would be nice to see pictures of some OG builders cars posted here. Maybe base it on overall performance, groundbreaking car design, years of participation. Also give the new guys a little history on the evolution of league racing and how car design has changed.

John, The two best racers I ever competed against would have to you and Carolina. IMOA.

I would like to throw out two racers...no particular order but Derby Freak and JAC!!!

Freaky was coming into his own but he never won a race as far as I remember before he quit.

He did beat EVO in bearings back in February at PWDR?

Even though they have pretty much dropped out of sight, you would have to include the Jewkes. In the earlier years they made a lot of contributions to speed up these little cars and have won a lot of trophies to prove it.

I think after a little more history behind them, some of the newer guys will prove to be among the fastest
of all time in different classes.

Goat Boy
JB07
Kinser
Quicktime (waiting to see how that new lube process works out)
Mr. Chips (NOT)

Of course Derbydad is probably #1.

Mike, I'm glad you have a sense of humor. Don't challenge me to any kind of Pinks race. If I lost it would be like losing one of my children.

Cool little thread here. If i was doing a list I would have to add the following. This is in no order just random names i would add.

DerbyDad4Hire
Glenn Jewkes
Lucky13
DaPine
Carolina Gravity
BNB
Cecil (can't remember his racing name)
Magiver(sp?) (always had much respect for him)
These are just a few that come to mind. There is a lot deeper talent now a days but i think any of these guys could still hang with us today.

Dennis - I will not do a pinks with you. There is no reason. We can always do a gentlemans bet. I really have not offered a pinks race. I have issued challenges but never quite a pinks. Well I guess I did one to Butterboy but I was late to that party.

Get Cam-Car on the list of builders. He was there when the first one rolled down the track 50 years ago...
blah

John you're the number one guy. And as much as I hate to say it Glenn would have to make the list. David on the other hand, I think all he could do was paint. Dennis is on the list as well as, Carolina, JAC, and Cecil B Deluxe.

There are so many great racers and different ways to judge them. Graphite era, Oil era, bearings, big axles, needle axles. If you are just strickly wanting to judge a racer on all around ability this would probably be my list since entering league racing. This is just from my experience

Derby Dad For Hire
Jewkes
Kinser
JB
Cash
JAC
Spirit
Quicktime
ZZ Racing
Cam Car
5 Kids

There are obviously guys that dominate a certain class such as Goatboy. He could easily be on the list if you broke it down by divisions.

Jokes is for sure on the list. You have to look at the amount of races won especially at big live events away from the home track. Jewkes was the first to utterly dominate.

Cam Car has to be on the list. He has been at or near the top since the beginning battling every era of racer and doing it making his own parts a lot of the time.

Kinsers string of dominance was one of the most impressive ever.

Quicktime looks to be the next Legend in the making.

Spirit is knocking on the door.

BNB was a great for sure.

5 Kids is definitely in the mix. Would for sure make it with one last strong push.

JB07 has all the tools.

Not getting the Evo ranking Cygnus... you have to have nuts to make a list like this. You don't earn a name avoiding the top level racing.

So many all bunched together right there... SoGone, Stonecold, Mackay, Cash, Dapine, Goatboy.

Wheeler was a great when I came in. There really are A LOT of great racers now. Too many to even give them the credit they deserve.

I think #1 is DD4H, then Jewkes.
I think near the top has to be WarpSpeed Inc., he was dominant in 2005-2007 and pioneered Rail Riding. Panzer was dominant back then too. Wheeler also dominated league racing in every class for at least two years. I think you have to look at years of dominance too. JB07 is dominating, but not as long as like a Ca$h or Kinser. BnB and Goat Boy have been dominant, but mostly in needles or bearings and not all classes like others.
