Tuning table

They must be related to my kids!

If I had the tune board that was at the old ECD, I'd almost give away my 2 laner, at least then I would have enough space to keep a track(tune board) up!!

I saw the photo with the radius marked to the table and I saw the calculations for figuring the radius for the different tables, but I do not understand. I have a Masters in Economics, not Math or Engineering. I built a 4 ft'r out of melanine and finished it off with pine corner trim last weekend. How do you mark the drift? What drift should we be using if we are racing on a 35' Best Track? We have been pretty successful with about 1" for every foot of board. Last year we used a 6'X10" particle board shelf and drifted between 5"-7" Any help is appreciated. Our Pack race is in a couple of weeks.

Every car is different. Wheelbase, type of wheel, axle angle, weight placement, all play into what you're shooting for. The tuning table is meant to give a baseline as to what times your running. They're really meant to be used in unison with your track times. If your having success with 1" every foot use that as your baseline, check your track times and tune it. I've gotten to the point where I can almost eyeball my tune. At the Man Of The Mountain I made one small tweak down the tuning board and my Street Stock was dead on.

Who is a source for the printed degree graphics. Can someone outline what it takes to get them made?

The curves are arc from a circle of the noted radius. I made this graphic for an 8' table in PowerPoint.

How did you do this exactly? I am trying to do this in Powerpoint and getting nowhere fast. The max measurement I can do is 56" and the curves seem to be freehand. So I assume I am being blind and figured it was easier to ask the question.

Thanks,
Rick

Thanks,

I made mine a 50% scale due to the issue you note – so for my 8’ table I made a 48” Powerpoint document. Then I made circles (50% scale) of the required diameter. The trick is locating the bottom middle of the circle at your start point. Simply dragging is not practical. I had to make a circle -> right click -> choose Size and Position -> Choose position -> then you have to put in your horizontal and vertical position. The hard part of this was getting all the data for the curves and where to locate. I did this all in an excel worksheet, unfortunately I don’t have that spreadsheet on this computer.

I think the Powerpoint is too large to send via email, but I could send the excel worksheet and directions which would make it pretty simple. I can check my other computer on Tuesday to make sure I still have the worksheet.

I have a few sizes already done and in Adobe pdf that I could email as well. I know I have a 16” x 8’, and a 32” x 8’. If somebody wanted one of those sizes I could email. If you have a custom graphic you want on it send that along and I can incorporate that as well.

5Js that sounds great. I can wait for the PDF or I can take a fairly large email.

Rick
I'll check the size of the file but I think it's too large to leave by computer. If I remember correctly it was near 10MB.

I can check on Tuesday and get back to you.

Either way will work. You know the alternate idea is put on a site where I could download it or send the instructions like you suggested the first time. Google Docs might be a good staging place. Just an idea.

I could not locate the excel sheet with the data to generate the table graphic - but I do have a pdf''d 32" x 8' graphic with left and right curves and a 16"x 8' graphic with a left hand curve, and on with a right hand curve. If interested PM me an email address. If you want a custom graphic let me know and I'll see what I can do.

I might be able to help with the spreadsheet. Chris used my spreadsheet to make the DD4H tuning table. I am not sure what changes he made to it though. What do you need?

A copy would be nice. One of the other forum members sent me the PDF and he did a nice logo for me as well.

So here is a shout out to 5kids for the awesome PDF.

Thanks everybody! This really helps to have folks willing to assist.

Got me a nice PDF file today, thanks 5js. I will post some pics when i get it finished, looks like i can get it printed fairly cheap.
