I have a question about wheels and axles. I have been building pinewood cars with my son for 3 years now. We have always followed the rules of what is allowed. However, no matter how fast my sons car is it is always 4-5 one hundredths of a second slower than the fastest cars in our pack. This year his car was even faster than last years council winner. I have noticed that while we play by the rules others are not. I have tried doing things the right way and don't like seeing my son so dejected when it doesn't finish well. What type of wheels would y'all recommend to make his car more competitive. He wants to go to council derby this year and his car is running a 2.60 on a 30 foot track at 189 mph. The fastest cars are running 2.55 to 2.56.

Drill jobs and wheel prep go a long way. But, if everything is equal, and you're still losing by 4-5 hundredths, wheels could be the difference. Depending on your ruleset (post it here and you will get very specific answers), you can upgrade the wheels and go with a set that has been professionally turned and trued.

Post a few pics of the car, maybe someone will be able to help you find some speed. 4-5 hundredths of a second is a lot! This forum eats that for breakfast!
