Using Gee Fenders

Do you guys think its worth removing what the fenders weigh from the COM weight to add fenders? Would you assume this a good trade off? We have a fenderless scout car that runs very well. Our district race is approaching and they allow tuning but it must be the same main body. I interpret that as, we could add fenders.
If you can tune on the track on race day, take the fenders with you. Tune the car without the fenders & if they allow, glue them on real quick with just a couple dots of CA glue. It doesn't take much to stick them on. If the car gains speed, leave it alone. If they create a problem, pop them off.

I agree with Crash on that, the fenders weigh next to nothing but in the tradeoff of PE vs Aero, the gain in aero is greater than the loss in PE by installing the two front fenders which moves a little weight forward. The rear fenders are already in the back so they cost very little in the way of PE. I'd do the fenders if you can.

I checked when I got home, there were no shims between the DFW fender and the body, only the other three wheels. I've used these GEE fenders on some of my league cars and they line up fine without shims usually since the inner hubs are cut down on those cars.

Forgot the pics this morning! Sorry! Here's a couple of my oldest's car:

Thank you very much for the pictures! Pictures are always helpful, especially for my simple mind. So based on what I see, you try to line up/center the fender front face on the wheel tread. At least that makes sense to me as you are trying to direct the air around the wheel face with the least disruption possible.

I wonder if the new Gee fenders have the same fitment or not? I guess a person should be able to look at them and mock them up with the anticipated wheel gap and make a decision based on what you see?

Thanks again for the pics!!!!!

The Gee fenders weigh next to nothing. Homemade balsa fenders are almost as weightless. Odds are, you could add fenders and not need to adjust your weight at all.

I seen that DD4H had weight listed for the fenders. I'm hoping the odds are in my favor. I do have a little room to work with weight. but very little.

I wish we could test a bit before the race. Last year I wanted to take a few passes but they guarded the track like it was the hope diamond.....lol

Perfect! That's the answer I was hoping to hear. I think we will give them a shot. Last year was pretty devastating for my son at Districts, so this year I want to give him the best chance we can.
