Hello everyone. I have been a lurker here for years as my son went through Cub Scouts.

I am still active with the pack and we have just purchased a nice 6 lane Best Track. With our new purchase, we decided to hold a state championship for youth and adults.

The web site is www.VADerby.com

If you live in Virginia, have a child building pinewood cars, please feel free to enter.

Cheers!

Looks interesting and so does the part about Pro or Amateur ranked racers can NOT enter their kids into the scout class.

Just so we don't get a bad trend started here, Can pro/ameture son or daughters race in the pro/am classes?

Guess what I'm saying is, yes I race here. Even while on the verge of earning my pro badge, I would hate for my son or daughter to be excluded at a state level race. JM2C

Race Looks great and good luck with it!

John, are you planning on moving to Virginia to race?

Sorry, wasn't trying to hijack thread.

Just saying for those racers in VA. Or if anyone coming to the leauges in any state or big district or council. Or pack for that matter.

I apologize for the narrative here.

Example: Myself, I'm looking on the board on a daily basis, I race when I get time and funds. My only realistic goal is to make the top 50. We have not been to local scout races since I started here. I would hate to see a pro/am rule pop up in our district (cause hay it is a good idea and has its place) that would exclude my son from his chance to compete at district again 'cause that's his goal. As a Web 1, he's basicly doing everything on his car this year himself.

As DD4H would say, we'll they're all built by dad anyway.

Now in the case of my younger daughters 5 and 7, sure maybe they could be excluded from the family race at district cause all they do at this age is help pick design, polish axles and do their own painting. They watch polish bore, and cut out. As I type this, I do see the girls are more involved than the scout who bought the car off the internet that is not excluded or called out in the rule.

Sorry again, I ended up spinning that in a direction I hadn't seen yet, but it was valid, so I left it.

Not to carry on, I do understand this is the first year. I applaud your efforts. I realize there is a lot of work yet to do. And thank you for helping out kids. Maybe there will be a pro kids div? When I get a chance I will post a pic of my 5 years daughters family race car. (it's not a pro/am car) Hint: Wave 2

Over and out, Hope your race goes well. I'd come and help if I were closer.

John

Hello everyone,

Thank you for the feedback. That is my main reason to post here since you guys are the experts.

We have actually changed the rules. I didn't realize what was copied included Pro vs Amateur. I like the KISMIF method, Keep it simple, make it fun. So there are only age classes, no amateur vs pros.

Just had a nice phone call with JBD racing and it looks like he will be coming to help with the event.

Hope that clears up any questions.
