Well, when I started about a year ago, I was in the AM class. Now at that time if you ran a 2.98 or better (with the old gate system) you automatically moved into the pro's the next month. So I spent a total of 1month in the AM class. Now there is no threshold, so it is confusing.
As was when I started. So now the AM class has a lot of "PROs" -old gate 2.98 and 2.97 racers, and that's ok.
I think having several classes makes it more fun for everyone, Whether its pro-am-nov or AA, A, B. I believe there was talk in last winters discussion of adding a nov class as per the intent of being "your own build". But I don't believe it ever made it to the rules.
As John posted recently, a lot of us , maybe myself included need to put the scout mentality aside and have fun. I don't believe there are many secrets left ODD, If you have a question, ask sometimes a PM is better. The guys at the top learned from the guys who came before them then built on from there.
Regardless of the structure, there still needs to be a gentleman's agreement to adhere to. No, I'm not calling anyone out.
So lets race and have some fun!
I think the issue/problem with saying the Novice was a "your own build" class was that it's very difficult to govern that rule. Say I buy a car, paint it, call it something else. How will you know it's a pro built car vs. my own. I think it's pretty obvious if you post a 3.06 time then next month post a 2.98X time, but that still is a judgment call on it being a purchased car or your own. Whatever the change or new rule is, it'll be just that and I'll support and adhere to whatever that is. If it's expected for people to congratulate cars that win, built or purchased, then I'm all for that. But I will not support or congratulate Pro built cars in a class designed for new builders. It's like saying we should congratulate Mike Trout if he were to play for your local high school team for hitting a HR every game. Or Peyton Manning for throwing 10 touchdowns every game for a high school team, for those that are not baseball fans. That's just something I dont support and wont.
"I agree, no purchased cars in Novice. Not sure you can keep them from Am.
I also don't think you can keep people from running in the pro class if that is what they choose. I will say that once you go pro you are there for good.
Whatever you class you start in is what you will race the 4 month series in." DD4H quote.
