WHAT DOES EVERYONES WORK AREA LOOK LIKE

LOL!

Good thing I straightened up before snapping the photo!

C'mon Rocket,

We all want to see your humidity controlled workshop.

Rocket, Rocket, Rocket!

I snapped a photo of my bench tonight I will share also. This is a reloading bench doubling as a car construction area, or possibly the other way round now. lol

Ickabod Crane, I like your benches, very sturdy looking. I'll be building a set of those once I get the garage cleaned out, or as my wife would like to say "re-purposed". It just doesn't sound good when she says that.

Thanks GX! I got a little carried away when I built the benches but they are rock solid. Now I need to build a tuning bench so I can get up off the basement floor to tune my cars.

LOL! Funny you should say that. I do have a few bowling balls laying by the black table. Archery range is a total of 70' Should have ordered a couple extra sections for my test track. Could have practice for the nationals!

Suns out, feeling photogenic and the shop's clean by my standards so here she is in all her glory.

Wow! Nice digs dog!

I see that little Proxxon chop saw on the milk crates.

That thing definitely deserves to be a center piece for Thanksgiving dinner.

While you have your camera out can you photo that electroplater you have?

You crack me up fella!!

Pretty sure everything shown on the table was under $50. I'm still a greenhorn at electroplating but it's fun to dink around with. Just like these cars, mastering this kit is a fine art. Several conditions affect the results, if the electrode wrapped in the cotton bandage doesn't have the correct number of wraps or is too tight/loose then the escaping voltage will differ. If it's too "hot" you can "burn" the axle a blackish color when using nickel. A bunsen burner is almost a must to control the temp. Directions say to heat in microwave but it cools off too quick. Another thing is say for a zinc plated axle, nickel will not adhere but if the zinc azle is first copper coated then the nickel solution will bond. I put it back on the shelf when I realized that alignment, tuning and prep would bring on faster results. Also, this was back in 2008 and graphite was the big dog- or at least in my little world it was, I was concerned that the molybdenum would scratch the softer zinc and learned that nickel would hold up better. Also, I was in the dark about the Pledge trick so I was essentially running graphite on unprotected metal. My gut says it doesn't really matter as much with the current preps being used.

They sell several plating solutions, chrome or black chrome would be cool. I was intending to nickel plate your reverse axle car but it just didn't happen.

Fascinating!

Can you electroplate larger things?

I have heard of a local company that will electroplate acrylic as well.

Can you do this too?

Thanks dog

Larger items need to be brushplated, literally brushing the solution on it vs dunking in the solution. Never tried either the bp or acrylic electroplating but they sure sound like handy skills to have. Especially useful for antique parts restoration.
