I would suggest something similar to this:

Three small scales that measure to the .01 gram. It will allow you to weight all of the wheel weights simultaneously for tuning. I would also get a larger scale to get an overall car weight.

When you are looking at scales, some only use grams as a unit of measurement while others use ounces. Some have a weight capacity. The first scale has a capacity up to 100 grams, not enough for a single scale to weigh a car, but they are ultra portable, which is why they are desirable to me.
Make sure with whatever scale you buy, also purchase the calibration weight for that scale.

Whichever one you get make sure it has a calibration feature and as mentioned get the appropriate weight used to calibrate the scale with....some scales use 200 gram calibration weights and others use 300 gram. If you are using the scale as a official race day scale you could also have a certified 5 ounce weight.......but be prepared to have that one parent that gripes that your scale is wrong lol
Actually, 5 oz of gold weighs more than 5 oz of pinewood derby car. 155 v 142 grams, approximately.
I always thought that 5 ounces was exactly that. It doesn't matter if it is a pinewood Derby car, 5 ounces of feathers, or 5 ounces of gold.
Now if it is 5 troy ounces of gold .....then that is a different story. Just like a ton of wheat is a ton of wheat. Unless, one of those "tons" is a metric ton. The qualifier/unit IS important.

Yeah I was just joking about a precious metal scale being troy. E.g. per the old riddle, an ounce of feathers weigh the same as an ounce of lead, but not of gold.
I ordered a Triton T2 scale from Maximum Velocity while their sale is happening and was pleasantly surprised with its accuracy for the price! It is small enough to be portable but large enough to weigh a car. When I received it, it was miscalibrated. Not sure what happened, it was supposed to come calibrated but was WAY off (or should I say "weigh" off? That's horrible...)
I ordered a 200G calibration weight from Amazon, but was disappointed that it was chipped in numerous places, figured it wouldn't be accurate. However, I went ahead and used it to calibrate the scale assuming it would be close but not exact.
Turns out, it was dead on to the scale the Scout Inspectors were using, down to the .01. Super impressed with this little scale, I assumed I'd have to have something larger and more expensive to be accurate. It got the job done. I will have complete faith in its accuracy going forward and would recommend it to someone looking for an affordable scale.
Definitely purchase a calibration weight with whatever scale you purchase.

I have 3 of these. I got 1 early on and 2 on a 2nd order. NOTE: they are NOT all the same height so weighing the car 1 wheel per scale doesn't do much good when they are not all level to start with. I have to put sheets of paper under 1 of the rear scales to make it closer to level. Its a nice little scale but would get a different brand if your getting more then 1.

I have a set of cal weights from 10gm to 500gm. You can set the cal weight you use. I choose 100 gm because it's the closest to a full car weight available. I've checked all 3 from 10 gm to 200 gm (and a 5oz) and they are dead on and linear throughout. Actually impressive for such a low cost scale.
