With the opening up to pretty much any body style, I'm trying to find a new body, that I like better than the Camaro. For those of you that aren't running the class which one would you like to see?

I think you should run this... I think it would be fast....

In keeping with the original muscle car theme and subsequent "not newer than '79", I made this search on eBay: Street Rod Models
(Click the categories on the left to narrow the search to model kits instead of tons of parts)

What's your plan? Pure looks? Pure speed? Do you have a favorite muscle car? Favorite car?

If you find a car you like, and think it might be long, you can Google search on the car's length ("1970 Ford Mustang length"). As long as your car is 206.25" or less (206.25" / 25 = 8.25"), you're golden. There may be exceptions -- apparently Revell says that their 1968 Dodge Charger is 8.25", although 1:25 of the official length should be closer to 8 3/8".

Personally, I would love to make a Subaru GT-B (Sport wagon) Street Rod that looks just like my car. I just don't want to shell out $40+ for a model kit.

How bout the original Bat Mobile. Or maybe another TV themed car? I'm currently building a Tv car just for fun that probably won't be competitive but will look cool going down the track.

This is a topic I have actually spent a good bit of time thinking about. It's interesting what you find.

First off, the rearly aerodynamic cars (Corvett, Ferrari, etc.,) tend to be in the 7" maximum length area and often with poor wheelbases (3 1/2 - 4 1/2"). There might be a sleeper there, but you have to look hard. Here is one that caught my eye, but it would be a real challenge to build due to the clamshell body:

Also in this group are a lot of convertibles. Would we be allowed to tape off the opening ???

Most of the 60's muscle machines (like my favorite 442's !!!), seem to have wind catching front ends and can tip the length limit. The 68 Charger does seem to be the one that is right on the length limit line. All of the camaros (and there are many) are right about 7.5" length with fairly similar wheelbase.

One of the surprising late models I have seen are the 2008/2009 Challenger type. These are not too bad on aerodynamics and are close to 8" in length. Not sure about wheelbase, but it looks quite useable (if you are OK with Chrysler that is !).

I have bought a new personal favorite, but it's far too early to reveal that

with the next race a month away. As it is, I haven't been able to finish a single one of these cars and get it to a race all year !

For some reason when I see this vehicle, I think of that SNL skit with Chris Farley where he is a motivational specialist and keeps reminding the kid "YOU COULD BE LIVING IN A VAN, DOWN BY THE RIVER"

I did notice that one of the cars was especially hard to stage. I think it was an early 70's 'vette? Had a very pointy nose and wouldn't sit on the start pin. Kept sliding off to the side. At least that's the way it looked on the live feed.

Unlike QT, mine HAS to be a Ford. Since I know mine won't be fast, I bought a '57 T-bird to build. It's a little narrow, I'm not sure if I can get the wheels under the body without them rubbing. I didn't think about the width when I picked it. A longer car would probably be wider, too? It came with wheel skirts and an extra fastback convertible top. I think the wheel skirts would look cool, but the fastback top is butt ugly in person. I think I'll go with the stock top.

Well, if you want a Ford, there is nothing flashier than this:

It's just a tad long - might need a little of Chief's "hot flash" treatment to get it back under 8.25"

I really wanted to do that one! I just don't have Chief's skills to make it work!
