What's a good time

Faster than the other cars.

Seriously, there are too many variables to say definitively. If actually 45' (not a 42' Best Track), somewhere around 3.25s would be an expected time.

What tracks are sold that could be configured at 45'? I think Freedoms have 8' sections, so they couldn't. Best also has 8' sections, don't they?..... but with the fixed curve, they can be 42 or 48, I believe.

Maybe some sort of wood track? Still, folks usually build 8' sections, though.

Bracketracer is right... I couldn't resist going to Best Tracks site to look... pasted specs...
35 ft. track - 29 ft.10 in. (358 in.)
42 ft. track - 36 ft.10 in. (442 in.)
49 ft. track - 43 ft.10 in. (526 in.)

For the OP...I did a bit of legwork. Even the nicely set up Best Tracks differ in times by a good bit.
I looked at times by the same class at Mid America, NPWDRL, and the Nattys:

BASX Car: Fumbleitis, by HurriCrane, 2016:
Mid America, 1st place. 2.9177 avg time He was the winner with that time at Mid-AM.

NPWDRL, the next month, June 2016:
Fastest car was Cash Racing's Double Trouble, at 2.9624

DD4H Halloween race, 2016:
Fastest was TJ Racing's Wenly, at 2.9284

These are all pro times in the same year, on 3 different, but same brand/length tracks. Vastly different times.
Now I'm pretty sure that BASX cars didn't slow down .05 from Mid-AM to the next NPWDRL race one month later, and then speed back up .04 for the DD4H race just 4 months later.
That's just the difference in the tracks. The cars were likely about the same speed as before.

So when you want to know a good time....they're really not kidding when they say "It depends".

This is why you can't compare tracks length to times!! The fastest car will win. A lot of people try to compare car times to track length year to year.. the smallest track change hill angle willl affect the time
I wouldn't have thought that DD4H's track would change THAT much, though. Not a track that's been essentially blueprinted and tweaked to perfection.
A Pack track that only gets brought out once a year? Sure. Heck, there's not that much change with our Pack track from year to year. .05 is a lot, to me.

You are correct, though....fastest car will win. Doesn't matter how you're timing it.
I totally understand trying to compare times, though....folks want to see how they are stacking up. See if they should bother sending one in, or keep working.

I'm thinking beginners shouldn't go right out swinging for the fence anyways. Loosing is still racing and learning. Too much time/energy spent trying to be perfect up front is so tempting but counterproductive. And believe you me this is me preaching to myself more than anything else. Just reiterating what others helped me to realize. Just build it, tune it to the best of your abilities, race the snot out of it and learn and get better.
Again no soap box here and I need this as much as the next newb. Only reason I was not going to do MA end of April was because I wanted more time to try and make the fastest car known to man my first time out.
Now I am not slamming wanting to expend the energy to research and find out as much as possible to learn which is exactly what I now seem to do every night before going to bed. Isn't addiction great!
All that to say we all should just bother to send one in. :)

Ps... please don't forget this is just a newb giving a humble not so educated opinion is all. These 2 cents need to be taken with a grain or 2 of salt.
