Wheel bore prep help.

If the axle gets too thin, the car may have a tendency to wiggle. Most racers would agree that you only have to remove the crimp marks under the head and then polish. VFC is the #1 Box Stock racer. Proof is in the pudding. Just to add to his recommendations, I would also cut a k-house groove in the head so I could orient the crimp marks (rotate the axle) for the best performance.

Here is a thread on this very question:

Thank you very much. I appreciate any advise that I am given here. I'll have to remember that for next time. I already polished my stock axles. I'm gonna use them as back ups. I have a set of nickel plated grooved axles I polish up that I plan on putting on my sons car for tomorrow. Gonna give oil a try.

If you need to use bsa axels Polish away, but use 2500 and up. Do not make the axels any smaller If you can help it. When I have my box stock axel ready to race, they do not have the best shine, but have just a little shine. Leave the bumps on the shaft, just take the bumps off the head.
Hey vfc, thank you for the info. I just got pointed in the direction of the thread that talks about that. Got a bit a reading to do now. Lol. Thanks again, i greatly appreciate it.

Biggest problem with bsa axels is size, about .088, 089. If you leave the bumps, and run them on the bottom, it makes for a tighter fit. There is more speed in the tighter fit than in perfect finish. Using 2500 and above you can make the bumps almost gone, but not all the way. Hope this helps you.

Definitely does. That will save a bit of time on are next cars. Time saved in one place gives more time for other important areas. Can't wait till race time tomorrow. We have council championships tomorrow. The car my son and I built for his derby is the green one in my avatar pic. Been running on graphite, prepped extra wheels and prepped a set of nickle plated grooved axles for oil, so we're gonna give that a shot tomorrow. My fingers are crossed.

Good luck and let us know how you did.

Congratulations to your Scout. What was your times? Where is Pack 138 out of? Glad to see that you are going to NYC to represent Seneca Waterways Council there. We did the last two years and brought Trophies back to Rochester both years. NYC is a great experience for your Scout. Enjoy your time there.

Hey scout racer, were you their yesterday? Pack 138 is from Newark, wheres your pack out of? His times were 3.56, 3.55, 3.57, and 3.59. He was the only wolf to go under 3.6 yesterday. Thank you,

Not sure what the lenght of the track. I asked a few of the people running it and nobody knew. All I know is it was super long! Longest track we've seen. I gotta tip my hat to pack 78, can tell they take pride in it. Their track is real nice!

No, I was not. My Son was doing a Merit Badge in Naples yesterday. I am from Williamson. I was the one who wrote the Council Rules with the assistance of a few others. The Scout that I was helping finished 1st for Webelos and was the Overall Council Champion. Let me know if I can be of any assistance as you prepare for NYC.

That is so awsome! Next time you talk to that scout, tell him I said congrads. His car set a track record of 3.519 if not mistaken. I wish I got to see it run, I heard that car was wicked fast. Seeing we live so close, would you mind getting together sometime and taking a look at my sons car and let me know what you think we need to improve on?

Sounds like a 49' track based on those times. But not sure.
So which race exactly is NYC?
Great job Optimus!!! Thanks for letting us know. Awesome to see that smile and him wirh that cool trophy!

Pinewood Derby World Championship in Time Square. The venue is cool. The Race is okay from the perspective of an Adult observer.

I was thinking it was a 49'. I know I wouldn't mind owning one. Lol. Definitely was nice.

Thanks Scout Racer. So I was wondering what this is in comparison to the Middle America which happened a few weeks back. Was MA just for that council regarding stats and qualifications tho I know they run open and pro too. I have a Scout from our Pack who has won pack, districts and council. And was wondering where he is to go next should he look to keep going.
