I am slowly tooling up, and need advise on saws. I am using DD4H precut blocks, but need a saw to cut out the shapes for troop and awana cars. Kids want some different shapes than rectangles. I do have a belt sander as well.
I can only buy one right now, either band saw or scroll saw. Main thing I notice is that scroll can do inside cuts, but band makes more square cuts. Since I am buying precut blocks, would a scroll make more sense for now?
Looking at the Porter cable or the Proxon. Proxon seems high for a smaller tool? Thanks guys!

I have a Harbor Freight Scroll Saw, and I like it a lot. However, it is relatively slow (compared to a bandsaw) and rubbish at making square cuts. If you need to cut a lot of blocks in a limited amount of time, go for the bandsaw. You can't do inside cuts like the scroll saw can, but you can do reasonable curved cuts.

You can make rounded cuts with a band saw when using the correct saw blade. Let's say you have a 5/8" wide blade, it will cut a curve pattern, but it will not have very tight rounded corners. Now, switch over to a 1/4" blade, now your curves can be much tighter. Doing inside cuts cannot be done with a bandsaw. Use a coping saw instead to get the inside work done. Hope this helps you out.
