My son won his pack race and will be going to district. Need some experienced advice

He ran a 2.65 but we run a shorter track than our district race (guessing on this one since we seem to get smoked at districts)

What maintenance can I do on the wheels and axles to ensure that the speed is maintained? I feel my options are

1. pull wheels and clean the treads with magic eraser and just add more graphite or

2. pull wheels and redo all of the steps
a. wash all graphite from hubs and bores (inner/outer bores)
b. re-polish inner bore/re-burnish inner bore with graphite and start graphite process for wheels and axles all over again?

appreciate any help on solving this fun problem. I have usually only added graphite a day before the races

for future reference is it worth it bending the rear axles?

B. pull the wheels and axles

Are you pleased with the speed you have? If so, regraphite, clean the wheel treads and put it away (set it so it's not resting on the wheels). Keep in mind if you start chasing more speed you may slow it down.

We are happy with the speed and thanks for bringing up that point since that may have been a root cause of the poor showing of the car we built at last years race. I convinced myself I had to do something different. My son chooses speed over style so that's what I have in my head.

So going the route of simple is best I'm assuming there is no reason to remove the wheels and axles to re-graphite?
