CA glue around the axle area ?
Better, worse, same ??
Seems like with the tape you could avoid some sanding & keep the sides of the body true.

So this intrigues me... I assume just the fact that John and B-Regal have been using that tape answers my question but just to be certain... this tape is on the harder side? So if a spinning hub touches it, it doesn’t bunch up and stays smooth? I always figured tape would have a risk of tearing or bunching up if the wheel hub made contact such as during a dreaded wiggle of death run.
Stays solid and smooth I take it?

Have not had an instance where it came off yet. I started doing this when someone had said they were wrapping monokote around the sides of their car...but I guess that secret is out.

CA glue around the axle area, nail polish.
I use penetrating epoxy, it soaks in a couple of .000, sand it super smooth, it's hard as a rock. The wheel hubs have left no depth impressions on the body after a season of league races.
We are not allowed to place anything between the body & wheel.

Is there a cheaper alternative?
Well if you already have CA glue that’s cheapest. And sanding it right won’t mess up the side of the car. I put a small amount on, spread it around the axle hole covering the area the hub might contact. It doesn’t take much glue. Once it’s dry I use sand paper on a small block of balsa. Like 320 wet to carefully cut down the bump of glue then go up in grit and finish with like 1k or higher. Can’t actually remember what I finished my last one with. Little bit of losing to finish it off if you still feel it’s not smooth enough. But really, it comes out smooth as a baby racers’s butt. The glue soaks into the wood and really doesn’t leave too much to sand down so it’s fairly easy to sand. But if you are doing fenders make sure you do this BEFORE gluing those on. Otherwise this simple easy experience becomes a major pain in the arse. Lol ask me how I know. Rather, don’t ask.
