I was cutting wood on the table saw for my first league entry this weekend and made the blood sacrifice to the pinewood derby gods. I'm pretty sure that guarantees it'll be a fast car. Right? LOL!

Now seriously, Ive been using that table saw for 20 years now with not so much as a nick. And I'm not even sure exactly how I did it. All I know is I was ripping wood that was way too short which had me working way too close to the blade. Basically got complacent due to familiarity with the tool. Let that be a lesson to everybody. Learn from my stupidity.

Now when it comes to catching a finger in a saw I would say I got VERY VERY VERY lucky. I wont get into the details but it could have been way worse. Nothing was lost and it will heal just fine... I just won't be able to play guitar for a month or two... The wife is pretty excited about that.

I'm right there with you. My kids get to use any tool in the shop (under supervision) with the exception of the table saw, the band saw, or the miter saw. And now that this has happened I don't think either of them wants anything to do with those tools. At the very least they now have a healthy respect for those tools.

Lol. I've heard that exact comment a lot over the last few days. Surprisingly though I didn't catch it on the way in or the way out. I had actually finished the cut and was grabbing the pieces on the back side. I'm honestly not really sure how I did it. ( I.E. I clearly wasn't paying enough attention to what I was doing ) All I remember is feeling my finger get flicked and hearing the blade ring and thinking to myself "that can't be good."

I was always nervous around the table saw. I had a couple of decent home made push sticks that worked well. I finally spent the money for the Gripper. I hated to because it was expensive. I should have spent the money YEARS ago. It works great!!

Ok, you convinced me. I have '78 Craftsman with all the safety features long gone, frankly I'm scared of the thing. Like you I balked at the price in your link, I found another in depth video on this product. This is what pushed me over the edge.

Like you I have a late 60's early 70's Craftsman saw that I still have the safety guard. However it is so cumbersome that it rarely makes it back on the saw.

The gripper works really well. I have not had an issue with saw dust that some of the reviews mentioned. I have only cleaned the "grip material" once since getting it. I just used a light dawn soap and then rinsed. I feel MUCH MORE comfortable working with the saw now. I still am very careful, but I don't dread making those small rip cuts anymore.

Just picked one up too. I've got a Sawstop PCS, which gives me piece of mind if I should ever contact the blade. However, it doesn't protect against kickback and I think the Grr-ripper will provide a little better control for cutting small pieces.
