2016 Mid America Pinewood Derby Results

Thanks for a great event, this was my first time proxy racing. It was fun for me and my son to watch the car going down the track on the live camera. Actually placed 14th overall (8th webelos) in the oil division open scouts, we were pleased with that. The time to ship the car caught up...

    Wheel flex

I wish I had a 42' track to see, but only a 35'. Set up for hill angle 27.1, and all level. the times are all around the same, given I pull the lever manually. I was first thinking the car with trailing fenders/extended wheel base/1.2 gram wheels might be faster in 42 due to fenders, but...

Okay, Here is another question on those wheels..... I have one car that has 1.7 gram wheels 4 3/8th wheel base with wheels pushed back in rear front and rear fenders (no trailing fenders).... 4"...

mid america-sanding tread bumps & spacers

Nope have not tried a tooth brush, but I will give that a try. I think one washer with the spacers will be just enough. Thanks

mid america-sanding tread bumps & spacers

What grit paper/technique is best to clean up the material around the tread bumps from the machining process? Under magnification you can see a bit of excess material there leftover. Also looks like it you still need a washer as well as the wheel spacers to keep the reversed wheel off the...

    Save Street Stock!

is the additional side material from the full fenders worth that much speed as opposed to leading and trailing fenders? I am setting up some MA cars with leading and trailing fenders, but wonder should i go full fender?

Checking rear weight balance with one scale

Do most league racers try to get even weight, or close on both rear wheels?

Checking rear weight balance with one scale

Will you get a accurate reading checking weight on each rear wheel with one scale? IF you place one rear wheel on the scale, then using a piece of material the same height as the base of the scale= raise the DFW and the opposite rear wheel to the same level as the scale. Of course then switch...

    Attaching Washers 2

It has worked great, I use a small trim router with a 1/2 wide straight bit to recess it flush with body. Not sure if its faster than the washers, I just tried it on the dfw.

Which are the fastest wheels out of BSA or PineCar?

If its anything like the last few years the Revel wheels are slow-but the axles are okay, better than the nail in a usual kit-no burrs. But if you can use the official bsa wheels that are made in the USA, like in a original kit.

Fender Gaps on mid america wheel

I don't have my Mid america wheels yet, but I do want to go ahead and get fenders mounted to car. Can I use a unmodified wheel and a rubber band to set the fender gaps? - or would the gaps be too large for the mid america wheel? Thanks

Car questions for mid america derby

My son and I are gonna build a car to proxy race for the mid america derby race (scout class). I had a few questions for those who have raced in it before. How do they stage the cars? Is there any specific instructions or labels in order to stage-just daylight on the dfw? I noticed they...

    compressing block

Why would you want to do this? If its straight grain and dry...it won't be a problem. Adding all the water with glue will increase weight and take a while to dry back out. Probably cause all kinds of problems.
