Which are the fastest wheels out of BSA or PineCar?

Hey

The race I'm in gives me the option to use either BSA or PineCar brand wheels.

Some people say the BSA ones are faster but the PineCar brand are lighter. So which ones truly are the fastest of the two?

But I don't get how a heavier wheel would be faster? Surly I want to do everything I can to reduce rotational inertia by keeping the weight around the rear axle?

Uncut PineCar wheel - 3.5 g
Uncut BSA wheel - 2.7 g

I've only seen a handful of the pinecar wheel bores and they look rough.

Pinecar wheels are much heavier, which is why we use them as a lifted wheel. For the weight they can be cut down to a much smaller size.

In our Pack race Pinecar wheels are not allowed. Every year I tell the parents specifically NOT to buy Pinecar wheels. Every year at least one parent buys Pinecar wheels anyway. Guess which car finishes dead last? The one with the Pinecar wheels. Every year. Only use stock Pinecar wheels if it's a turtle race! Lol

thanks I will use bsa then. I also saw revell wheels on Amazon that are bsa approved and supposed to be faster. They look the same.

It's for a race at our school that we have every year to raise money. I have to make 3 cars for our kids but they accept either bsa or pinecar

If its anything like the last few years the Revel wheels are slow-but the axles are okay, better than the nail in a usual kit-no burrs.
But if you can use the official bsa wheels that are made in the USA, like in a original kit.

Revell are heavier as well. I want to say they weighed 2.9g the last time I checked them. It's been a couple years since I just stuck with the BSA. The wheel bores on Revells are smoother however since most on this site are going to polish their wheel bores it really isn't as big a deal for cub races.

Pinecar wheels can be fast. Just not in out of the box form.

The Revell Wheels hub area out of the box is a bit better than the standard BSA wheels, isn't it? Looks like it to me.

I buy them because the axles don't have the crimp marks and are much easier to polish.

Used an untouched set (polished, Red Rocket, oil process) for the "builder's cup" race at Powderpuff derby last year and was the fastest car at the race, other than a pre-bought car one girl showed up with. It was a DD4H car, I'm pretty sure, so I would expect that to beat me, since I was running all box parts.

The kids tend to like the Revell wheels because they are shinier, also.
