Badges...

Might as well just wait until the track is set up at the new location?

B_Regal, if I come to a post with Kinser or QT in it, I just switch to a mobile device. It doesn't display badges so no worries there!

Speaking of moving, is the new location set up with a similar internet connection? I think we're so spoiled by the ultra high speed the shop had it'd be tough to handle going back to "free hotel wi-fi" speeds.

The badges haven't been updated for awhile.

That's because we already have to scroll down 17 pages after either Kinser or QT post to the forum. The idea was not to make this problem worse...

I think I would favor a "mini-badge" for forum signatures, maybe with full badges to display in the user's profile page?

I am going to stick with my "no badges"... but that is just for me.

If I race bad enough, I can keep that going!

rofl

Everyone else can keep their badges.
peace

Honestly, I'm doing the same, but if I actually ever win a race, or a series, I might ask for that.

That being said, I am glad that Kinser and QT do sport those badges. It did help me identify those I should listen to closely when I first started, not knowing anything at all. Now I listen to everyone and make my own decisions through testing, but when you are new, it helps....

Keep those badges guys. I have a scroll button and I'm not afraid to use it /images/boards/smilies/thumb.gif

RIGHT ! ! ! ! if and when... I may want one... but for right now, I am good...

And besides.... the scroll roller on my mouse works great !

Besides.... Seeing Kinser and QT accomplishments helps me set goals for myself ! /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

It's funny, the guys that don't have any badges are the ones that complain and want them reduced or taken away. Are you also voting for the politicians that want to over tax the wealthy? Those who don't have, want to take away from those who do. Welfare state mentality guys. I've helped a lot of guys! "Take away his badges!" Thanks guys, you're welcome. Sorry to inconvenience you tender feelings little cub scout.

Speaking for myself:

It has absolutely nothing to do with jealousy or badge-envy.

It has everything to do with the fact that when the content of a post is 10% of the visual space and the list of badges is the other 90%, it sort of bugs my sense of efficient web design.

I don't know if you'll believe that or not, but I'm not overly concerned with that. /images/boards/smilies/tongue.gif

I'll just stop posting.

No need to be passive-aggressive about it. I just voiced my preference (smaller badges). I never said it was a deal-breaker. I like reading your posts because you usually have good things to bring to the table. Yes, I'd prefer to scroll less, but I'm not gonna boycott because of visual badge-spam.

Yeesh.

Yes, the badges may be inefficient from a web design stand point but they really let you know to whom you are talking.
The badges speak to the persons experience and ability. That in turn will add or detract from the weight given the shared information.
The badges are something to be proud of and are very difficult to earn. Which is why I bumped this thread to begin with. I do not wish to take QT or Kinser's badges away. I want to earn my own!

So back to my original question, Who is now in charge of the badges?

I am pretty good at graphic design, "in my own mind" . I would design them and post a sample here if you guys want to see them? I just don't know how to add them to a tagline.

John's the man on the badges. Him and I have talked about reducing the space. What would be great is if the badges could be on a scrolling (side to side) banner. They wouldn't be small or eliminated. If someone could do it one of the mods or John could place it in the sig line.

The banner would need to be given to John. We don't want someone else to have the ability to do dishonorable things on the forum. That happened once in history and we don't want to be doomed to repeat it.

I would not mind lending web-tech assistance to this endeavor, but I'd need a little bit of info regarding how trophies are currently assigned to users (from a technical standpoint, that is), and what sort of customization we're able to insert into the forum software.
