BASX rules and Puma Racing Weights

It's like this... It's a block of WOOD, 4 axles ... 4 plastic WHEELS and some WEIGHT. The WASHERS are $.018 each at a hardware store. Either your cars gonna be fast or it's gonna be slow... Will the weights make a difference ?? Maybe a little if installed right and car is balanced. I see this working better in SS rather than BASX cause of the fender... Everyone has the same info and what to do with it... Far as wheel weights go to LOWES and spend $2.00 and u have weight. You glue them together , notch for the rail, and attach to the body. This entire topic is over washers & weight. GEEZ... It not illegal , what's gonna happen peoples gonna keep complaining and there won't be a BASX class , then what? Why don't people build STREET PROS & ELIMINATOR , and unlimited..? Just race , have fun, it's a hobby guys... RULES ARE RULES, no one in BASX IS BREAKING THEM WITH WASHER WEIGHTS !

Out of curiosity, why aren't washers being argued about too? We might want to disallow washers and side glides under the same arguments.

I've already explained why this is all an issue only in the BASX class. What I write is not being read for understanding, so like I said, I give up. Please provide the confirmation that my understanding of your argument is correct.

I'm not sure why a poll is needed. All I'm asking for is clear and consistent rules. Are there people against clear and consistent rules?

JBD is right! I have only been racing since Nov. 2013. I have tried racing in all of the different classes trying to figure out which classes I like the most. All of this bickering back and forth about some wheel weights in the BASX class is just crazy. Being fairly new to league racing, I'm still trying to get my prep process down and trying to keep my cars from wiggling on the track! I'm not too worried about what is or is not allowed under the rules. If I were doing something wrong someone at the races would have told me.

Oh yes to JBD's point about building SP and Eliminators, Eliminator class is fast becoming my favorite class. I have a SP called Night Fury I need to get completed and I'm working on an Eliminator called Nightshade.

Can you guess where my efforts are getting concentrated in for the Man of the Mountain!

http://npwdrl.com/basx-rules/

"NO FENDERS, AERODYNAMIC MODIFICATIONS, WEIGHTS OR DECORATIONS ALLOWED MOUNTED IN ANY FASHION TO SEAT IN FRONT OF OR BEHIND THE WHEELS OR ANYWHERE ON THE SIDE BETWEEN THE FRONT AND REAR WHEEL."

That pretty much clears it up for me.

The rule does not say you can't attach weights to the sides of the body in the wheel cavity area. So the wheel cavity weights would be legal.

I've had my say and I'm moving on and getting ready for the Man of the Mountain series.

I have only had the pleasure of racing in this league one time and then I have had a chain of events in my personal life that have taken priority right now but I have cars built and fully expect to get back into league racing. I know that I don't post a lot or contribute anything to you guys but I still log on everyday and keep up on what is going on. I currently have three BSAX cars built the old fashioned cube way. I really don't understand why this is such a big deal. IMOH it is coming at the perfect time. Yes the way the rules were written one could view them either way and if we were in the middle of the season I could see the problem. But we are not and this to me is the time to make changes to the rules or anything that needs changed to make this sport better. Personally coming from a sub par builder like myself, I like the idea of putting the weight in the wheels. That takes one more variable out of my equation that I wont screw up.

LB, I already made it clear way back in the thread. You might have missed it.

I looked again, but didn't see it. Sorry. I'm asking you to confirm that weights, like wheels and axles, are not subject to the car body dimension rules.

LB- the rule change reflects the allowed physical location of where the weights can be mounted.

Outside of the wheel is no mans land on the outside of the car.

On a side note, it looks like I need to change my moniker to "Some people" since that's what folks are calling me lately.

SomePeople Racing ... has a nice ring to it.

The latest BASX rules (updated yesterday) look tight to me ...

-----------------------------------------------------------
BASX Class
Car Body ( the wooden/material structure that holds the weight, axles and other add ons)/ Total Car Dimensions

Wheel Base : Any as long as wheels do not exceed the 7″ total length requirement
Total Car Height : Not to exceed 3″ inches…
Total Car Length : Not to exceed 7″ inches…
Total Car BODY Width : Not to exceed 1-3/4″ inches…
Total Car Weight : Not to exceed 5.0 ounces (+.04) or 143 grams even measured on 1/10th digital scale

Additional materials maybe added as long as they meet the rules

Wood must be used to construct your own body and/or frame
4 Axles & Wheels must be installed to the side of the car body directly across from one another / No more than a 10 degree angle

NO FENDERS, AERODYNAMIC MODIFICATIONS, WEIGHTS OR DECORATIONS ALLOWED MOUNTED IN ANY FASHION TO SEAT IN FRONT OF OR BEHIND THE WHEELS OR ANYWHERE ON THE SIDE BETWEEN THE FRONT AND REAR WHEEL.

-------------------------------------------

These rules address all the cross rule inconsistency and intent inconsistency that prompted this thread. There is one minor objective issue and some clarity issues. I'll provide feedback in a PM since these won't be major changes that people need to be aware of (and most are purely subjective). And, its evident that rules discussion stresses out "some people".

Thanks for the updates John. This is a big improvement from my point of view.

I strongly looked at both sides of the arguments. I do understand that the weights might be an issue at the moment but i guarantee they won't be a second thought in a month.

There is one other change that I am looking at that is more important. I think we will add one more restriction to the wheels- No material removed from the inside of the wheel. This is much more of an issue than the wheel weights and keeps everyone on equal ground.

surrender

I still say that weights, when added to the car, are part of the body. /images/boards/smilies/sneaky.gif

Just a thought here. What if the BASX rules were left as they were fist posted and just added an exception line.

Something along the line of: wheels/axles and rear wheel cavity weights are exempt from the 1.75" body width rule.

Thanks!

If that happens I'll need a clarification of "inside" then. Is the edge "inside"?
