BASX Vote NOW!

Depends on the BASX class intent. If it is to race cheaply without parts have a significant expense, then I would say "no", but I don't particularly care either way (and because I don't care, I voted "yes"). I'll race anyway. If you do not have your act together, they are not going to help much, if at all.

I voted yes for this reason... To me a basic (BASX) car is comprised of four things. 1) a block of wood, 2) weight, 3) axles, and 4) wheels. These are weights so they should be allowed. Anything more is not basic in my book, i.e. fenders, washers, etc. I don't look at it from a cost perspective, I look at it from a basic build perspective.

Just a thought-

John it is great you value your racers opinions... This shows your willing to listen and help out where you can to keep the League strong. I will not take place in the vote as I am not racing right now and I can see where I would love to vote yes for myself but for the class as it was started I would vote no... I can see both sides as this class started out to be an entry level car kit Basic to level the racing field to prep, builders technique & luck...

I am going to play Devils Advocate for a second.... If this passes to use the wheel weights would you loose the 9 or how ever many racers that are against the wheel weights? Would this again discourage those who race and just can't get these weights.. It is being posted that it helps pick up a few thousandths... Now if guys run the correct prep, fine tune can a guy be competitive with cubes.. I am sure several guys here can but the majority can't... I think guys would buy the weights to feel they can get faster and then it comes to installation, prep and tuning, and of course Luck... Just hate to see guys get discouraged and drop from the class that seems to be strong as it is....

Now on the other hand- I am not sure how hard it would be to have a BSAXWW-Class {wheel weights only nothing else}.... This way the guys that want the original BASX car as it began still can race without the extra expense they feel is more then they want to do... It sounds crazy but not everyone will win and everyone can get better and improve their times with the cubes and fell good about doing so against those running cubes... The guys that race wheel weights can have at it and get crazy and still know they are going to get where they want to be in the class they compete against others using wheel weights....

One can earn a BASX Cube Badge the other can earn a BASXWW Wheel Wight badge...

I feel to let wheel inserts to be used in the BASX class may open hope a whole can of worms. Question --- Can I make them out of Balsa wood and install them on the front or rear wheels? If it was Balsa would you feel different ? Next we get the GEE wheel inserts. (there is and idea). Please let me know --so I can start on my front inserts :-)

This is my exact point. There will always be something else thought of that pushes the limits and rides the grey area of the rules. $$$ is NOT a reason to go against the wheel weights. Very nice thinking Safer! Aren't we wanting to go faster???

On the flip side, are we going to lose 22 racers?

The last thing we need is more classes. Too much stress on the builders and who really wants to race 3 other cars or some ridiculous low number. I don't want to have to resort to stuffing cars in classes under different builder names just so you feel like there is someone to race.

Listen I don't really care either way. I just don't want the inner cub scout to come out and try and slow the faster guys down by making more strict rules to give the slower guys a chance. We all know that regardless of the rules, the ones that master the art are the ones that win the races.

KEEP VOTING, and keep commenting. I am taking it all in.

How about participation badges... Would that make it FAIR for everyone? Then everybody woul get a badge.. I've seen less drama on daytime soaps.. Y'all are taking it way to serious just have fun../images/boards/smilies/smile.gif/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

This is just stupid!! Everyone complaining about cost!!!! You can build washer weights for $3.00 most of us probably have them laying around the house.. None of my cars have wheel weights NONE!!!! Will probably not I like cube weight. Everyone has took. The will weight thing way too far.. Keep it up and the class is gonna get dropped. Just RACE or spend $3 and build ur own..

Relax, take a breath, he asked for all our opinions not just yours.

By the way.. My BASX car is running within 6 thousands of my STREET STOCK that took 2nd at NATIONALS.. That should be about a 2.983-85 on Johns track.. It's all cube weight . It's a solid body NO wheel weights... Just CUBES.. I took my 2.8 wheels off I ran at NATIONALS .. And put a new set on that are 2.4. I messed with this car for about 30 min. Last night , beside prepping the wheels and axles the prior night. I'm ready for the MOTM.. Cause the times my BASX is running I would of win NATIONALS by 3 thousands .. And NO WHEEL WEIGHTS! Here's pics ...FYI it's FOR SALE ALSO!!

NOTE THERE'S NO WHEEL COVER !!!

Ask yourself this.. If you win out of the class and have to move up to the PRO classes.. What will be the complaint then? That JBD,QT,WK,KINSER just to name a few.. That they only have to race each other because they are to fast.. Becareful what you wish for.. My goal is to be among the top racers.. HARD work and not complaining about fairness will get me there.. Just my 2 cents..

NPWDRL Rules said:
Car Body / Dimensions
Width : Not to exceed 1-3/4″ inches…

How about this, NOTHING attached to the side of car except for wheels and axles.

While John was joking in his comment, it reads to me as being exactly the same as the NPWDRL rules.

How about this then: If weights are not part of the body, I will just add a weight extension off the back of the car. My car's body is still only 7" long, but now I have the added benefit of weight that is outside the body.

This whole thing seems to me like the rules were made, a cool new product comes along, and now we are doing these verbal gymnastics to let us feel good about using it as though there is some sort of loophole.

And, for those saying to "just use washers": sorry, but steel is nowhere near as dense as tungsten. These tungsten wheel weights allow for a much more compact weight (as far as rotational inertia is concerned) than do the steel washers or none at all.
