Exactly right! Good things take time and are worth the effort. I ran a mod back in 2010.....all aluminum body. The car had wheel weights with razor wheels. It finished dead last. The weights were not the cause of the last place finish, it was due to my lack of experience, heck, I finished last in all three classes I ran for the first three races!

The weighted axle head seems doable but not without some challenges that may make it not worth doing. If attached to an existing axle there is very little surface to hold it. The axle hole would also be taking on a lot more strain. Like you said it may not be very good for proxy racing.
