Bearing Car questions

Hi guys! I was wondering a little bit about bearing cars. I know I'm jumping ahead of my skill level but I have three questions. How wide are bearing car bodies typically made and at what height are the axle holes drilled front and rear? The rear axle is drilled straight for a solid one piece axle. Do you still have a canted DFW for steer? I don't plan on building a bearing car any time soon I was just curious really.

Width...wide enough to hold the weight. Height for holes, that depends on the wheels and wheelbase. The fastest bearing car I have has a wheelbase that's wide as possible, then the drill height is just enough so that it clears at the curve of the track. Canted the DFW just slightly and without a K-groove it is a little harder for me to tune. The hardest part for me is getting a good tight fit on the axle for the bearings. Broke more than one wheel trying to get that just right.

Just depends on your preference I guess. I thought like a 1 1/2" body width. Do you drill the guide pin hole at the same height as the DFW?

I do. Not for any other reason than habit though.

Wheel base and width are your preference. most of mine have been 5.25"
push all the weight to the rear you can.

Thin to win buddy. Narrow across the nose. I like to offset my guide pin, preference. Cut a tuning groove and flatten two sides for tune. Clean them bladez. Clean them balls. Clean that skin. Pack that weight. Clear the rails all around....see you on the hill...s.o.c.k.s.
