Best wheel base location for standard wheel base?

Our rules require a standard wheel base to be used, but it can be moved anywhere in the block. is there a big advance in drilling the the rear wheels as far back as possible (thinking 5/8"), if I can't move the front wheel up? The front wheels would be 2".

Rules:

6.5. Wheelbase (distance between front and rear axles)

6.5.1.Maximum 4 3/8“.

6.5.2.Minimum 4 1/4“.

6.5.3.Axles may be located anywhere within the length of the car as long as the

distance between the axles is maintained.

6.5.4.Use of axle slots on block included in kit is not required

Definitely. Having the rear wheels at 5/8" will allow you to push the weight back as far as possible while still being stable (and not doing wheelies). Having the wheels as far back as possible will put your weight as high up from the floor as you can (btw, it is better to have your weight all the way back and low in the car than to have it all the way back and high in the car), which will give you the most speed.

Drill your fronts at the 4 3/8" max wheelbase.

Thanks. I just ordered a Silver Bullet and plan on drilling 3 deg cant on rear and DFW straight. However, i don't have a drill press (yet). Has anyone had any luck drilling with Silver Bullet with just a standard drill? I bought the good drill bits John suggested.

surely you can borrow a drill press from somebody...maybe a school shop, or vocational center?.....

Hand drill wont work. Harbor Freight usually has their bench top on sale plus uaing their constant 20% off coupon can bring it to $50. I would aak around though like others have suggested to use someone else's.

I have been looking at the drill that chief posted about. I have two questions for anyone who has used this drill or similar small drills if they can post a link to them.

1. How tight are the tolerances? Is it sloppy or tight on runout?

2. Is there enough room to use a silver bullet with it?

Thanks,
Derrick

This is what i use. Can't make any claims on runout but others before me in a older post said it was pretty tight. The table is pretty small but not hard to get level and use. I just got the extension table/fence system they sell separately for xmas.
