hey guys, i am wondering if any of you have or thought about moding the Block? I have been thinking about removing the small rails that position/hold the wood. by removing a 1/2" or so where you would drill the holes you would be able to get the holes closer to the bottom of the wood block.on a eliminator or unlimited. or the front on everything else. now i have to sand the bottoms of the cars to get the super thin ultra wedges like Flapjack was, just wondering ,
thanks.

Why the block works is because of the squareness of it. If you alter it you just gotta make sure it is square. But everything I have been told is the lower the body sit's or the closer it is to the rail the more aerodynamic.
hmmm

Is the wood your using perfectly shaped? Why would it matter which side you have to sand? I'm just asking because I'm not getting the problem. If you really want to get it as close as possible to the bottom edge of the car, place the pin in the other grove and drill the wood at the edge away form the aluminum block. It'll accomplish what your thinking, I think. lol /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

on flapjack, the area where the front axle is is literally just a few thousandths thicker than the axle is, how could you drill that hole in the wood while the ridge of aluminum on the BLOCK is higher than that. well, if i had a cutout in the BLOCK, then it would not be a problem.i am looking to make all 4 of my 2012 cars body;s only 9/32" thick, i want the front of the car about a 1/16" lower than the back. i am not worried about the overall clearance, but the way the air flows under the car instead.

I marked the spots I commonly use and used a round file to file the lip flush in the areas I drill my axle holes. This allow me to have very thin bodies and put the axles just where I want them

Thats exactly what i was talking about. I like the round file trick, i will use that. thanks for the idea.

I wouldn't mod my block! Think outside the box here for a minute. Put your wood in the block. Typically the bottom of the car is inserted in the block right? Now make the bottom of the car the part that's out of the block, and the top of the car is the part of the wood that's inserted in the block. It's an unorthodox approach but you'll achieve the same results without modding your block. Feel free to ask any questions. /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

My block got "moded" by dinging it with the drill so many times, you can now drill anywhere.

That's what was happening with me - so I filed scallops in the areas that I commonly drill - no more issues.

The block is designed to fit tight, I have a piece of granite that was cut out of the counter top in the kitchen to put the sink and I just use the granite which is very straight and smooth and I place a piece of 180 grit sand paper on the granite and sand just a little until it fits very snugg into the block.
